THE POSITION: The Alameda County Water District, in Fremont, California, is seeking an exceptionally talented engineer to apply and further develop their technical design knowledge and broaden their project management and leadership skills. As an Alameda County Water District Engineer I/II you will have the opportunity to perform a variety of engineering tasks related to a wide range of water utility infrastructure such as pipelines, pumping stations, and water treatment plants.
Under immediate supervision, an Engineer I or II may be assigned to plan, direct, schedule, oversee, and evaluate the design and construction of complex District capital improvement projects. Work duties are typically broad in scope, and may include: project management for all phases of capital projects including planning, feasibility, economic life cycle cost analysis, designing, hydraulic modeling, preparing construction drawings, preparing technical specifications, cost estimating, budgeting, scheduling, and environmental permitting of water treatment and distribution system facilities; administering and managing various contractor and consultant contracts; coordinating engineering and construction activities with various District departments; and performing other related duties as assigned. Although not required, the ideal candidate is licensed in the State of California as a professional civil engineer; proficient in infrastructure design and public contracting, preferably with a focus on water treatment works and potable water distribution and transmission systems (pipelines, reservoirs, storage tanks, pump stations, regulator stations, etc.), and experienced in working with regulatory agencies and the public. The work of an Engineer I/II is characterized by the application of theoretical professional engineering expertise and the attainment of procedural knowledge through on-the-job training and experience.
There is currently one vacancy for this position. The recruitment is being conducted at both levels of the classification series. The vacancy will be filled at one of the two levels.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of: Engineering principles, terms and formulae, cost estimating methods and the properties of materials. Knowledge of safe work practices including OSHA regulations, as they relate to the position and the ability to identify workplace hazards and/or unsafe conditions and take appropriate action to correct same is required. Skill and ability to apply engineering principles to the solution of routine professional engineering problems; prepare drawings, details, maps, profiles, graphs and compilations of numerical data; use job-related computer software; write memos, letters and technical reports which are clear and concise; and communicate effectively.
All Levels: Possession of a Baccalaureate degree in an engineering curriculum which is accredited by the Engineers’ Council for Professional Development, or a California Engineer-In-Training Certificate. A Bachelor of Science degree in civil or environmental engineering is desirable; and
Engineer I: In addition to the above, no experience is required.
Engineer II: In addition to the above, two (2) years, within the past ten, of practical engineering experience. An advanced degree in an accredited engineering curriculum may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
Additional Requirements: Must possess a valid California Driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.

Additional Salary Information: SALARY: Depending on qualifications and experience, this position may be filled at any level. The annual salary ranges for the respective levels are as follows: Engineer I $91,483 - $111,201, and Engineer II $106,319-$129,237, plus excellent benefits.
