Towson University is currently accepting qualified applications for a MT Maintenance Mechanic position in the Facilities Management Department. Under general supervision, this position serves as a maintenance mechanic on the day shift performing specialized tasks, daily inspections, and the upkeep and repair of all building components and building equipment to provide an effective maintenance program.
The Maintenance Mechanic responds to emergency and non-emergency requests from the campus community; performs daily inspections of campus heating/cooling and building equipment; makes necessary repairs to all building components and systems; maintains required equipment logs; operates and ensures operational readiness and safety of tools, equipment and building components; reports deficiencies and safety problems to senior personnel; and assists tradesmen and contractors in the repair and/or refurbishment of building components and systems.
Work schedule: Monday-Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Weekend duty, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on rotation basis is required. Schedule must be flexible in order to meet departmental needs. This position has been identified as Essential personnel.
Three years of related work experience; general knowledge of a variety of building construction or maintenance and repair practices and techniques; and working knowledge and skill in the use of tools and equipment of the trade including computerized management software. Must be able to perform physical tasks such as shoveling snow and lifting tools and materials up to 70 pounds; work in, on, around, over and under fixed equipment or machinery; stand for long periods of time; work in hazardous or irritating environments and adverse weather or temperature conditions; work from ladders, scaffolds and mechanical lift platforms to heights up to 100 feet; and wear protective equipment. Applicants must possess and maintain a valid Maryland Noncommercial Class C or equivalent driver’s license with no more than 5 points.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
A Criminal Background Investigation and pre-employment physical are required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
