Construction Project Manager / Senior Construction Project Manager
The University of Iowa department of Facilities Management, Design & Construction, is seeking a Construction Project Manager or Senior Construction Project Manager. The candidate will be a highly motivated, experienced professional who will manage contracted construction work for the University of Iowa. This position is responsible for the delivery of effective project management services. Projects have a high level of complexity and can be high profile and have a greater impact on the operations of the institution. May be multi-phased with multiple contracts; project team may include staff from several disciplines and/or departments as well as Specialty Consultants. Project durations can be as long as 3-5 years.
Other duties include:
Ability to plan, organize, monitor, and control projects, ensuring efficient utilization of technical and administrative resources, to achieve project objectives.
Manage and supervise construction process of group of projects as needed.
Knowledge of and ability to use the proper processes and practices for managing and administering a variety of contractual agreements.
Provide advice on development/interpretation of contract documents. Review design and/or construction for code compliance with current campus standards and industry best practices. Review bids received and recommend contract awards to administration.
Manage project schedule throughout course of design and/or construction process and develop schedule to assure desired project completion dates are met. Provide expert advice on constructability impact in the formulation of schedules during design phase. Manage schedules actively and accurately during project to enforce contract documents.
Analyze, monitor and report financial data, information and reports. Knowledge of, and ability to apply, policies and practices for planning and administering a budget.
Manage purchase orders and contracts on numerous single and multi-phased projects, and negotiate change orders and/or claims independently and make recommendation to administration for approval.
The Design & Construction unit is part of Facilities Management, which is responsible for the planning, construction, operation, and maintenance of buildings, campus grounds, and utility systems on the University of Iowa Campus.

This position will be filled at either the E&A Project Manager (PWA3) or E&A Senior Project Manager (PWA4) classification level depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate. Salary range for PWA3 is $67,269 to commensurate; salary range for PWA4 is $79,656 to commensurate.
Construction Project Manager (PWA3):
Bachelor's degree in engineering, construction technology, architecture or a related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
Senior Construction Project Manager (PWA4):
Master's degree in engineering, construction technology, architecture or a related field or an equivalent combination of related education and experience
3-5 years experience in construction management or construction supervision.
Excellent communication (written and verbal) and problem solving skills.
Proficient in computer software applications.
Familiarity with construction site safety guidelines.
Ability to work with a diverse group of staff at all levels of an organization.
Experience in a customer focused, team-oriented environment.
3-5 years experience in construction management or construction supervision on a university campus.
Experience with project management software, commissioning processes, laboratory or MEPT capital improvement projects and/or state building inspection procedures.
