The Associate Network Engineer is a new position inside the Purdue Networking team. You will get the chance to contribute to the continued growth and success of networking Tier II as well as learn and expand your networking knowledge and gain valuable experience in a large enterprise environment. In this role, you will contribute heavily in the upcoming network roll out planned for the next 18-24 months.
Your role will be to help maintain optimal performance of the University data network, geared towards keeping service disruptions to a minimum. You will utilize network monitoring tools to analyze usage trends and proactively forecast potential problems as well as identify network outages and effectively communicate outage notification information to other individuals and groups. In many cases, you will assist with work towards resolution of the underlying outage cause. You will communicate scheduled outage maintenance notifications.
One year of experience in enterprise/campus networking or infrastructure related work.
In lieu of degree, consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of related education and required work experience.
Experience working with professionals involved with the support of networking systems.
Knowledge of Cisco IOS and wireless networks.
Ability to problem solve.
Ability to analyze network events as they occur and recommend appropriate course of action.
Ability to work independently and on a team with a wide variety of people and problems in a constructive manner.
Aptitude for the above technical competencies.
Insatiable desire for learning, self-motivated, thrive in a team environment, quick learner, and be able to use critical thought to develop unique and creative solutions.
A valid US or Canadian driver's license.
Ability to lift and carry up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 20 pounds occasionally.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or Information Technology field.
Experience in a network operations monitoring center.
Experience with common scripting languages such as Perl and Ruby.
A background check will be required for employment in this position.
