This position is classified as a Facilities Maintenance Technicial .BuildingTrades at the Journey level. Positions at this level are generally fully functioning specialists in a particular trade area and may also perform more than one trade at either the contributing or journey level, but must perform at least one trade at the journey level. This position is required to perform general tasks and duties associated with the carpentry, water restoration, paint/sheetrock, mold abatement trades. Tasks include, but are not limited to: the skills and knowledge to properly and safely use and operate the associated powered or hand tools of the trade, general maintenance, repair, replacement,and alterations of complex building components, the ability to read and interpret construction blueprints and detailed job descriptions, ability to create a materials take-off list and complete purchase requisitions for needed materials, the ability to complete purchase requisitions for other purchases (i.e., tools and tool accessories as necessary), and the application of skills in planning, problem-solving, attention to detail, teamwork, communication and adherence to safety.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.
High school diploma or equivalent directly related work experience. Must have experience in carpentry and related fields. Ability to serve as a mandatory employee and report to work in support of mandatory University operations, even when adverse weather or other emergency conditions require the University to close.
Preferrence for 5yrs. experience in the trade; ability to obtain any certification deemed needed within one year. Preferred candidate will have journeyman experience with carpentry related trades
