1. Position is responsible for the design, development, coordination, and completion of the more complex electrical designs within Design Services as compared to Design Services' Electrical Designer Technician. This position helps to spread the workload responsibility of electrical design and project coordination within the Design Services Section. 2. Position is responsible for special projects and meetings related to electrical, telecommunications, information technology, specialty lighting, and specialty projection systems as well as other special electrical systems. 3. Position is responsible for specific internal and external meetings related to the Design Services Section and Facilities Management. 4. Position is responsible for electrical code knowledge and review including review and approvals with the State Electrical Inspector. The position is also responsible for electrical specification writing. 5. Position is responsible for completing specialty electrical Informal Projects and other specialty requests internal to Design Services and Facilities Management as directed by the Design Services Director and Assistant Design Services Director. 6. Work is often performed independently requiring professional knowledge of complex and detailed technical procedures. Work may require considerable public contact to explain standards and regulations, or appearance before a regulatory or judicial body, provide consultation and technical assistance, and may require negotiation to determine the feasibility of project implementation or continuation. 7. Work performed includes exercising judgment and decision making that directly impacts life, health, safety and the environment.
Minimum Experience / Education:
Bachelor’s degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment and six years engineering experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Preferred Education Skills and Experience:
1. Bachelor degree in electrical engineering. 2. Minimum of five (5) years of experience as an electrical engineer. 3. Electrical Engineer experience with medium to large-scale renovation and construction design. 4. Professional Registration as an Electrical Engineer in the State of North Carolina or ability to obtain such registration within one year of assignment to the position. 5. Experience with building code reviews using the appropriate codes such as the National Electrical Code, Administrative Code, Energy Conservation Code, and Fire Prevention Code. 7. Selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
