This position is in the Operations and Facilities Management Department (OFMD), Facilities Engineering, In-house Construction. This position is for the Medical School Campus.
This position requires the individual to be the facilities painter/carpenter, prioritizing and accomplishing a variety interior and exterior finishes, as well small structural and architectural repairs, and furnishing maintenance etc. at Washington University School of Medicine.
PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Acts as primary Facilities Painter/Carpenter for assigned area, prioritizing work and making initial assessment of conditions and service needs.
Maintenance/Repair: Repair drywall and plaster, Patch and paint surfaces, Repair wall framing replace studs if necessary, Match paint and stain colors, Prep stain and finish doors and counter tops, Replaces damaged ceiling grid and tile. Replaces window glass, caulks and glazes windows.
Installations: Installs drywall and studs, Tape and mud drywall, Installs door hardware (hinges, stops, etc.). Installs cove base. Hangs pictures, coat hooks and mirrors, etc. Installs gas cylinder restraints. Installs shelving and hardware.
Relocation: Moving of lab equipment, refrigerators, and freezers. Relocating office furniture, and wall cabinets.
Support person for large and small construction projects, demolition, trash removal, getting material and equipment to and from job site.
Responds to off-hour/weekend/holiday emergency pages/phone call-ins as needed.
Follows through on completed work to verify proper facility conditions are restored.
Keeps Facilities Engineering supervisors aware of facility conditions, problems, and needs.
Maintains effective communication with other Facility Maintenance Technicians and maintenance support staff.
Performs tasks outside of job description in support of the Department and the School’s mission.
Performs other duties as assigned.
This position is full-time and works approximately 40 hours per week.
Applicant Special Instructions:
Works inside and outside, in dusty and dirty places such as pits and equipment spaces where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees and equipment may be oily and greasy. Exposed to wet and cold conditions as well as noise and vibration from operating equipment.
Must be able to work in morgues, gross anatomy and pathology laboratories. Employee may be required to work in the vicinity of labs containing bio hazardous and/or radioactive substances.
High School diploma or equivalent. The equivalent of 2-4 years of related experience in skilled trade functions, along with demonstrated ability to perform varied maintenance tasks, is desired. Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with a diverse group of people. In order to advance from a lower level position at Washington University, the individual must demonstrate the ability to perform proficiently in the position being filled.
Experience in carpentry and painting.
Vocational training is preferred.
Missouri Class E driver’s license or Illinois Class D license.
The hiring range for this position is $18.44 - $23.52 per hour.
