Introduction: The Piedmont Environmental Council (PEC) was established in 1972 as a non-profit organization (501c 3) to promote and protect the natural resources, rural economy, history and beauty of the Virginia Piedmont. PEC is a national leader in land conservation, land use policy and smart growth with its main headquarters in Warrenton, Virginia and offices throughout a nine county Piedmont Region that includes Albemarle, Clarke, Culpeper, Fauquier, Greene, Loudoun, Madison, Orange and Rappahannock counties. PEC staff provides technical expertise and organizational support to citizen groups and governmental officials on land use policy, land conservation, transportation, water quality, historic preservation and environmental issues. One of PEC’s top priorities is to promote voluntary land conservation in the form of conservation easements.
Areas of Responsibility
The Development Specialist will report to the Director of Development and be responsible for the duties outlined below:
Responsible for soliciting middle donor gifts of $250-$999.99.
Manage relationships with approximately 100 prospective donors to identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward.
Maintain stewardship contacts with donors; adhere to the highest ethical standards; demonstrate empathetic disposition, and perseverance; reflect optimistic and positive attitude, and convey sensitivity to needs of the donors
Assist in managing all data on current, lapsed and prospective members in database management program, Acknowledge all donor gifts in a timely fashion;
Proficient in Raiser’s Edge to include all data entry, list and report management, and maintenance of system;
Operational and logistical support of PEC events—both fundraising and programmatic;
Reconcile monthly donor giving and gift allocation to accounting reports;
Coordinate and support PEC Board of Directors in their development initiatives.

Bachelor’s preferred and at least four years related work experience or equivalent;
Knowledge and experience with MS word processing, database management proficient in Raiser’s Edge), spreadsheet software, with ability to construct and produce reports and advanced applications preferred and Power Point.
Demonstrated strong communication skills, both written and oral, including ability to write, edit, and proofread written materials for use with donor solicitations, member’s communications and special events;
Basic understanding of non-profits fundraising and marketing practices preferred;
Ability to organize, coordinate and manage diverse activities and deadlines.
Valid driver’s and reliable transportation required.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
