Employment Status: Full-time, "Non-Exempt" Temporary Position
Work Schedule: To Be Determined. Incumbent will be expected to work evenings and weekends on occasion.

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator of the College of Natural Sciences Peer Advising Center (Student Services Professional III), the incumbent in the Student Services Professional IA classification will perform mildly complex professional student service work in a team setting.
Typical assignments require the application of both knowledge and judgment in using the principles, techniques, standards, guides and professional skills characteristic of any student service program or activity. The Student Services Professional IA will provide the day-to-day academic and graduate school advising to undergraduate students using intrusive, developmental advising techniques in accordance with national best practices and standards with the goal of promoting student success. This may include: guiding students in the identification of academic and life goals and ways of pursuing them; assisting students with major and career choices and changes; assisting students with personal counseling; providing coaching regarding study techniques and time management; helping students construct, monitor and update post-graduate planning (including resume/CVs, personal statements, applications, mock interviews and community involvement) to promote entrance into graduate school for the health professions; making referrals as needed to campus and community resources; and related topics working in a team environment; working in a potentially fast-paced environment (multi-task). Collaborate with faculty and staff from academic departments and other units to facilitate effective advising and graduate school application process for students and alumni.
Applicants must possess the following minimum qualifications:
Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university along with the equivalent to one year of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field.
Working knowledge of applicable university and federal policy and procedures.
Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings and establish and maintain cooperative working relationship with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Working knowledge of correct English, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior.
Fundamental writing skills and effective communication skills with the ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
Ability to write, speak and read other languages is desired.
Working knowledge of computer software applications.
A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
