Menlo School seeks an engaged and charismatic leader to direct one of the largest and most complex programs in the School. This position will provide the vision and leadership for planning, organizing, coordinating, and managing all aspects of the 6th through 12th grade Athletic Programs. The Athletic Director reports directly to the Head of School and is an integral part of the School’s Senior Administrative Team. This is a full-time, 12-month position with a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package. This position will start on July 1, 2018.
The Athletic Director will manage a core department of six, which presently includes the Assistant Athletic Director, the Middle School Athletic Director, Sports Information Director, the Athletic Trainer, the Performance Coach, and an administrative assistant as well as 12 full-time coaches, up to 75 seasonal personnel. The Director is responsible for all of the aspects of an outstanding Athletics Department: personnel and budgeting across all sports; efficient coordination of athletic facilities, practice, logistics, and competition schedules; effective management and hiring of coaches, eligibility and compliance processes; student-athlete academic balance, progress and achievements, and quality public relations for all teams. The Director implements and directs Menlo’s athletic programs in compliance with the rules and regulations of CCS Guidelines. The Director also serves as the institutional representative to for Compliance with CCS and other athletic entities.

A proven track record of successful management and leadership, preferably in athletic administration either at the high school or collegiate level.

Active and visible support of Athletics, connecting with parents, students, and the wider Menlo Community by attending numerous and frequent contests and games in both Middle and High School.
Build a climate of trust and collaboration by connecting with and being accessible and available to coaches, students, parents, and the athletic staff.
The ability to select and maintain a staff of highly qualified and successful head coaches, coaches, and assistant coaches.
Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills; mentor and train as well as evaluate performance, taking corrective action as needed; deal with stressful situations while maintaining composure; and contribute to a collaborative environment by utilizing exemplary communication.
The ability to systemize and improve processes for monitoring and ensuring accountability for all fiscal and programmatic operations of the athletic department and each sport.
With the myriad sports teams, schedules, travel needs, budgets and paperwork, the Athletic Director must be exceptionally organized and detail oriented when overseeing the logistical details involved with schedules, game management, field management, and communication with other schools and the community.
