Cornell Tech is currently completing Phase 1 of the new campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City. The Verizon Executive Education Center (VEEC) and Hotel are expected to break ground in or around November 2017. The Field Supervisor is expected to oversee the project through completion of construction in fall 2019.
Reporting to the Director of Design and Construction, the Field Supervisor for Site Logistics and Construction will:
oversee the coordination and construction of the utilities (gas, electric, water, sewer, storm & telecomm) for Verizon Executive Education Center (VEEC) and Hotel;
oversee the deep foundation coordination and construction work for the VEEC;
oversee the coordination and erection of the steel superstructure for the VEEC with the CM;
oversee the construction of the landscape and site work to ensure that unique campus designed by James Corner Field Operations and SOM is realized;
oversee and coordinate with the CM superintendents of the VEEC & Hotel and have oversight of the site logistics plan developed by both CMs jointly and ensure compliance with AHJ regulations and safety plans for High Rise Program;
coordinate with the VEEC & Hotel CMs for all materials being brought to site seeking opportunities for temporary staging to reduce impact on Roosevelt Island's Main Street;
develop daily and two-week look aheads for both VEEC & Hotel, communicating with Roosevelt Island's governing body (RIOC). Coordinate regular construction and large oversized vehicles requiring access on Helix Bridge;
coordinate with the VEEC & Hotel construction management firms and consultants working at the site to ensure smooth operations in a complex construction environment;
represent Cornell's interests at the construction site, and maintain close communication with Cornell Tech capital project team.
Bachelor's or professional degree in: landscape architecture, architecture, engineering, construction or closely related field; or relevant experience leading projects of a similar scale.
This position requires experience with field supervision in complex environments as well as highly developed skills in communication and project organization.
5 years professional experience, including field supervision for complex and high-quality projects
Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills
Demonstrated ability to work independently, provide leadership on complex issues, and deliver quality projects
Broad knowledge of landscape, civil and structural work is necessary.
Master's is preferred.
Experience working on ambitious design projects with high-profile building and landscape architects
Familiarity with technology-based project management tools
Experience working in New York City and/or challenging urban site
Typically lifts less than 10 lbs
Normal visual concentration
Limited exposure to hazards
