<p>Description of Position<br /><br />Ensure efficient operations of University Security in a nightly basis. Supervise and train security personnel; performing all Security Monitor/Security Officer functions as needed. Communicate Security/Public Safety issues. Act as University Security’s nightly point of contact for UMPD and PSECC when University Security managers are not present to assist with coordinating public safety resources.<br /><br />The Security Operations Supervisor is responsible for conducting and evaluating trainings, observing work, coaching, mentoring, and providing work direction to security personnel. The goal is foster individual employees’ skills and development and requires different techniques and approaches with different personnel. The Security Operations Supervisor recognizes and formulates an improvement plan regarding performance issues of security personnel.<br /><br /><br />Responsibilities / Essential Functions<br /><br /><br />1. 40% - Supervise security personnel currently consisting of 150 student Security Monitors<br />• Accompany and observe the duties and performance of security personnel<br />• Ensure department policies and procedures are followed and executed as prescribed<br />• Answer questions from security personnel relating to policy/procedure<br />• Respond to, evaluate the need for intervention, assist with, and debrief with security personnel after all incidents where security personnel are involved.<br />• Ensure all incidents are documented and detailed reports completed within established timeframes<br />• Recommend/provide remedial training<br />• Coach, direct, mentor, support, praise, and discipline or refer for discipline all uniformed security personnel<br />• Assist/conduct/review employee evaluations<br />• Supervise collaboratively with other University Security supervisors<br />2. 30% - Train security personnel<br />• Lead and facilitate new employee orientation classrooms<br />• Maintain certifications in security training areas as directed (e.g. CIT, DT, CPR/First Aid, IPMBA)<br />• Conduct trainings for all security personnel as directed<br />• Conduct/review training evaluations<br />• Provide/assist with remedial training for security personnel as recommended<br />• Assist management and training coordinator in maintaining accurate and up-to-date training records in employee files<br />• Participate in the planning and development of the training program<br />3. 10% - Ensure efficient operations of University Security on a nightly basis<br />• Communicate nightly assignments<br />• Ensure appropriate staffing, re-assigning resources as needed or finding replacement coverage in accordance with employment policies and bargaining unit agreements<br />• Assist with the enforcement of University policy<br />• Ensure security equipment and vehicles are in proper working order<br />• Assist with the maintenance and inventory checks of all unit equipment<br />4. 10% - Communicate with all levels of Public Safety<br />• Prepare nightly roll call and ensure all Security/Public Safety issues are communicated to all security personnel <br />• Summarize and communicate nightly security/public safety concerns to University Security management<br />• Act as point of contact between UMPD, PSECC, and University Security when management is not present to assist with coordinating Public Safety services<br />• Recognize and document compliance concerns<br />5. 10% - Assist with the recruitment, interviewing and hiring of security personnel<br />• Assist in the review of applications for the student Security Monitor position<br />• Recommend applicants to be interviewed<br />• Assist with interviewing student applicants<br />• Recommend applicants to be hired<br />• Issue uniforms<br />• Assist with the completion of new employee paperwork<br /><br /><br /> </p>
<p>Minimum Qualifications<br /><br />BA/BS or a combination of relevant education and experience in a security or law enforcement field equal to four years. <br /><br />Physical/Environmental Demands<br /><br />• Ability to travel (on foot) to all campus locations quickly in all conditions including construction sites <br />• Must be able utilize stairs during emergencies and during patrols<br />• Work outdoors in all weather conditions<br />• Ability to patrol or stand post for all or most of a 10 hour shift<br />• Administer CPR/First Aid<br />• Possible BBP exposure<br />• This position is considered an essential employee</p>
