Duties include performing professional engineering work in the design, investigation and construction of public works and related projects; and handling a variety of technical tasks relative to assigned area of responsibility – reviewing private development plan submittals; preparing project contracts and design drawings for a variety of capital improvement water, wastewater and other related projects, and managing engineering consulting contracts associated with construction design and system studies; reviewing utility plans and specifications to assure compliance; coordinating and overseeing multiple aspects of construction processes, such as relocation of utilities, investigating problems in the field, and negotiating prices with engineers and contractors; and providing engineering support for daily operations. Duties also include supervising assigned staff and directing design professionals; organizing and conducting meetings and attending public hearings; responding to citizen inquiries; and ensuring the GIS system properly reflects new installations.
Duties will require a high level of verbal and written communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field; and six years civil engineering or related experience, with at least two as a professional engineer, required. Must have knowledge of Microsoft Office products; and have, or obtain within specified timeframe, Texas Professional Engineer’s license and a Texas driver’s license.
