The City of Cedar Falls is seeking a Building Official/Inspection Services Manager to manage/oversee the activities and operations of the Inspection Services Division within its Department of Community Development. The individual will be responsible for enforcing all building, mechanical, plumbing, and electrical codes; coordinating the Division’s work plan; assigning projects and areas of responsibility; reviewing and evaluating work methods and procedures; identifying and resolving problems; overseeing field operations; delegating assignments to inspectors; analyzing methods to maintain efficient operations of the division; interpreting and enforcing city codes; and participating in recommending and implementing new codes and systems. Position requires knowledge of: operations, services and activities of a comprehensive building inspection program, modern techniques of all phases and methods of building construction, building codes and ordinances enforced by the City, including the uniform building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes, principles of structural design and engineering, basic principles of municipal law applied to building inspections and permit application process.
Minimum experience and education requirements include: high school diploma or GED equivalent supplemented by specialized training in building, construction technology, code enforcement, or related field and three to four years of increasingly responsible experience in construction and building code enforcement with at least one year of supervisory experience.
Position requires valid driver’s license with good driving record and possession of, or ability to obtain, certification as a plans examiner, building inspector, or an electrical, plumbing, or mechanical inspector. Building Official certification preferred.
