Involves managing the design and construction of capital projects, including renovations, expansions and new facilities and infrastructure as well as landscape projects; collect, develop, and analyze technical data to determine project requirements and preparation of information regarding specifications, materials, equipment, estimated costs, and completion times. Under the direction of the Physical Plant Associate Director; Facilities Project Manager with experience in civil systems design and installation who is responsible for coordinating all phases of building projects and facilities modifications, from establishment of design concepts through design implementation and or coordinates specialized and critical components of projects as a contributing team member. Acts independently, receiving guidance at each key phase of the project. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Able to provide multi discipline support.
Performs civil engineering, architectural, planning, project management, and administrative tasks conforming to the standards set forth in the campus Long Range Development Plan (LRDP) and related Environmental Impact Report (LRDP-EIR), campus standards, and area planning studies. Projects include physical planning efforts as well as the design and construction of new facilities support systems. May direct new work of one or more FTE; Engineering Associates, Assistant Project Managers, Construction Inspectors, or student employees as a means of fulfilling these responsibilities. Hires, trains, disciplines, and evaluates the performance of those directly supervised, if applicable.
The Work Management Department is responsible for building systems operational availability through deferred maintenance replacement projects and small new project integration. The department also contributes services to the College Housing and Education Services Division by performing projects of a major maintenance capacity. Projects performed by the department are varied in professional discipline and budget value.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Thorough working knowledge of building and construction, design, construction contract administration and California Building Codes, including full understanding of industry practices.
Thorough project management skills, including skill to manage complex projects.
Thorough knowledge of the organization, including its infrastructure and short and long range strategic building plans.
Thorough skills in problem recognition / avoidance / resolution.
