The University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) is the largest provider of dental care in the State of Maryland. The School's Office of Information Technology (OIT) works to maintain and support one of the most technologically advanced clinical management systems in the world. OIT is seeking to hire a Senior IT Database Administrator to support the clinical and educational mission of the School. This position designs, develops, manages and maintains large production and non-production databases and performs the most complex database administration assignments using the most advanced software. The Senior IT Database Administrator will be using Oracle and MS SQL Server databases to support the clinical management system and be responsible for the performance, integrity and security of all of our databases. This position will ensure the systems are secure, up-to-date, efficiently operating and troubleshoot issues as they arise.

Performs the most complex designs of database systems and programs which include the following components: capacity planning, installation and updates, configuration, design, access methods, access time, file structures, device/allocation, validation checks, statistical methods, stored procedures and security.
Maintains data standards, including adherence to the Data Protection Act;
Stays current with the latest updates and information related to Oracle and MS SQL. This would include performance monitoring, security, trouble shooting, backup, recovery and other tools and other related information in order to maintain our databases at the highest level of operation.
Manages the database snap shots, backups and the replication of databases for uses such as simulation, training etc., as well as to our DR site.
Meets with and works closely with users to determine needs and develops project plans or alternatives that will meet objectives.
Identifies data sources, constructs data decomposition diagrams, provides data flow diagrams and documents the process.
Writes the most complex code for database access, modifications and constructions including all associated procedures.
Assist in the full life cycle of data warehouses and/or data marts
Implements procedures and protocols to monitor, analyze and verify data to ensure data integrity.
Provides database expertise to less experienced staff.
Serves as a project leader for most complex, costly or sensitive projects that could significantly impact enterprise-wide systems.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education : Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Systems Administration, Computer Engineering or a related field.
Experience : Five (5) years of experience in development, implementation and maintenance of database systems across multiple platforms.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Expert knowledge of Oracle and Microsoft SQL server.
Able to develop sophisticated programs to meet the requirements of projects.
Excellent communication skills and able to work on a team or individually.
