Provides comprehensive description, and thoroughly outlines advantages and disadvantages of engineering solutions to proposed new and retrofit construction. Recommends sound engineering solutions for proposed work. Demonstrates an adequate knowledge of national electrical code, related building and fire codes, and performance requirements. Provides correct design criteria for facility physical plant systems to assure proper delivery of these building services. Thoroughly reviews drawings and specifications and makes every effort to assure their conformance to building/life safety codes, school board guidelines, DOE minimum standards and functional requirements. Inspects and analyzes problems as required. Gives constructive criticism and recommends solutions which assure sound, innovative engineering, economical installation and operation, and easy system maintenance. Makes visual and quantifying inspections of completed work or work in progress as required to determine its quality, satisfactory installation and operation. Reviews and evaluates contractor submittals to assure conformance with approved design. Approves, as noted, or disapproves submittals as appropriate. Recommends incorporation of new equipment or systems (with supportive rationale) and/or implements same as appropriate. Develops and maintains guide specification for both in-house work and consultants. Provides accurate cost and schedule analysis of proposed projects. Prepares construction documents. Consistently maintains satisfactory level of effort and progress, and regularly meets scheduled and accepted deadlines. Accepts other assignments and executes them independently or with others as appropriate. Communicates effectively with consultants, contractors and staff, demonstrating understanding of both theirs’ and the school system's functional and operational posture. Makes presentations on engineering subjects to staff and others as appropriate. Prepares engineering reports that are informative and/or conclusive as required by the department, or for presentation to school board or individual. Collaborates and coordinates with colleagues, site based staff, food services, maintenance/operations/ DOE and other governmental authorities. Solicits and assists the Maintenance/Operations Department in solving problems in equipment or system design, operation and maintenance, or with any other endeavor that requires particular engineering expertise. Reviews trade and technical publications and consults with manufacturer's representatives, professionals, and contractors in an on-going search for new or improved building mechanical methods and equipment. Uses leave in a reasonable manner. Conforms regularly to daily work schedule. Maintains proper personal appearance and dress appropriate to the tasks. Performs other duties as necessary for the effectiveness of the organization.
A minimum of ten years post graduate experience in facility engineering design is required. Current license as a Professional Engineer (P.E.) from the Georgia State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers and Land Surveyors. Strong interpersonal skills are required along with the ability to work in a team setting. Established documentation and organizational skills are a requirement.
