Full Time 40 hours Grade 054 Medical Center Info. Systems Schedule 8 AM-5 PM Responsibilities THIS POSITION HAS AN END DATE OF 3/31/19. General Purpose: Provide database administration support for eRecord/Epic Cache environments utilizing knowledge of operating systems and basic RDBMS functionality. Install, maintain, and configure operating system and database software. Monitor and tune operating systems and database software to affirm optimal performance is being achieved from the software and hardware installed. Provide first level problem determination and resolution in support of operating system / database software. Support the project leader for major software implementations by defining the project plan, identifying the required resources, coordinating the tasks of the project team, and tracking the project schedule. Communicate to staff planned and implemented changes and status of problem resolution. Be responsive to end-user and IS requests for services. Coordinate activities with staff, including applications, Customer Services, the Help Desk, and the Data Center. Specific Responsibilities: Under general guidance from the eRecord Technical Team Lead and with some latitude for independent judgment and initiative be responsible for: Operating Systems / Database Software Perform software installations, maintenance, and configuration in a controlled environment that demonstrate thorough testing of the product including interfaces with other components. Ensure the implementation process (move from test to production) is as seamless and non-disruptive to production systems, as possible. Provide the necessary training to applications or computer operations staff for new functions / features associated with either new product installations or maintenance enhancements. Design, implement, test, and monitor backup and recovery procedures for operating system, database software, databases, and application software.Ensure systems are recoverable. Evaluate new software products, new or enhanced software features of installed software, and recommend a direction for implementation based on the value and impact the new or enhanced feature may provide the environment. Provide Database Administration support including data transformation duties (ETL etc.), for the various database management software packages installed. This includes but is not limited to database design and / or database definition. Provide Application Level support (if needed) for Enterprise Applications that utilize supported DBMS. Performance and Availability Monitoring Use the operating system / database monitors installed to determine if all necessary components of the operating system and / or database system are functioning and accessible. Monitor end-user response time for production applications to ensure consistent and acceptable performance.Also, certify that service level agreements are being met. Periodically (at least on a quarterly basis) review performance data from the operating system and the database environments to determine if performance objectives are being met. Recommend and implement performance-tuning changes based on this review. Use the tools available to monitor the performance, capacity, and usage of the disk storage subsystem. Monitor dataset placement and allocations to insure established guidelines are followed, space is not being misused, and I/O rates are within acceptable limits. Problem Determination and Resolution Support Collaborate with computer operations, applications development, end users, and software vendors to provide first level support for problems that are related to the operating systems or database software environments. When necessary assist applications development with problem determination and resolution for application abends. Respond promptly to all problems keeping in mind the computing environment supports a user community that requires access to critical business information 24 hours a day / 7 days a week. Rotate primary / secondary / backup on-call for off-hours support with other staff members during which time it is expected all pages received from the operations center are answered with a return telephone call that meets organizational standards (currently within 15 minutes of receiving the page). When necessary respond to critical problems in person at the operations center and remain on-site until the problem is resolved and all operating system / database components impacted are available and accessible. Technical and Project Management Skills Maintain a current knowledge of technology and an expert level of software skills through self-study programs, reading technical journals, attending job related seminars, and personal development conferences that develop and strengthen technical as well as inter-personal skills. Function as a technical resource for members of the operating systems and database group, applications development, computer operations, and the end user community. Develop and maintain operating system / database software documentation that is necessary to support the products installed. Maintain an awareness of current projects and deadlines and assign priorities as required. Complete projects on time and within budget constraints. Requirements: Bachelorâ™s degree is related discipline such as Computer Science, Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Science or Engineering; and 3-4 years of related experience, preferably 1-2 years in a supervisory capacity; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Masterâ™s degree preferred. Preferred Requirements: Off-hours support, weekend hours, and overtime may be required to support a data processing environment that provides 24 hours a day / 7 day a week access to critical business information for the end user community. Be a team player with the ability to interact effectively with co-workers and management, be self-motivated with a willingness to learn, be flexible and adaptable to an ever changing environment, and demonstrate a positive and professional attitude. Three to five years of experience supporting operating systems or database software with 2 yearsâ™ experience in a junior position preferred. Provide accurate, timely, and concise written and verbal communications to management, peers, end users, and software vendors. Be an effective listener and one who can communicate ideas clearly. Insure management is informed promptly of problems that impact operating system or database availability.
