The MT Electrical Trades Supervisor II will provide leadership and general oversight of the administrative and technical supervision for operations of electrical trade unit. Directs five (5) High voltage electricians, one (1) electrician and one (1) electrical apprentice. Responsible for organizing, scheduling and coordinating electrical work in 52 buildings, to include repairs and maintenance to all electrical equipment including a 33 kv electrical distribution system. Coordinates and implements energy savings projects including; BAS and lighting controls. Point of contact for all BGE service related issues. Must be current with all electrical codes and practices. Provide major event support such as athletic televised events and concert venues with Events and Conference Services.
The Supervisor will plan, organize, schedule and assig work for the six (6) electricians and one (1) electrical apprentice. Review assigned work to ensure it is completed correctly. Supervise and train assigned personnel. Perform on-the-job training and participate in the performance management process. Actively review and monitor the work of the apprentice electrician. Provide reviews to Harford Community College on apprentice's performance. Review work orders; determine work priority and make appropriate personnel assignments; make recommendations regarding work that falls outside the scope of the shop and suggest alternative for timely and appropriate completion. Ensure adequate supplies, materials and equipment are maintained for area(s); initiate and/or prepare documentation related to purchase transactions; recommend and supervise vendors; oversee the ordering process. Perform estimates of time, labor and materials used on assigned projects. Prepare contractual specification for construction, renovation or overhaul work done by outside contractors. Inspect completed job assignments for adherence to trade standards and contract specifications. Prepare a variety of special and recurring reports and analyses reflecting daily operations and project status. Inspect shop and work areas for adherence to safety, sanitary and security regulations. Ensure area meets established standards. Operate and ensure operational readiness and safety of the tools and equipment of the trade (s). Repair and/or direct the repair of machinery and equipment using hand and power tools, precision measuring devices and testing instruments.
High School diploma or equivalent and eight years progressively responsible experience in the electrical trades to include at least five years in a lead or supervisory capacity. General knowledge of management principles and practices, and ability to apply those principles; knowledge and experience managing all phases of work (planning, estimating, scheduling, budgeting, inspection and construction). Ability to develop procedures associated with oversight responsibilities of campus building electrical systems. Expert knowledge of methods, materials, tools, practices, hazards and safety precautions of electric trade required. Skill in the care and storage of equipment and supplies used in the trade where assigned; ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, schematics and as-builts. Ability to work from ladders and scaffolding; manipulate heavy equipment, tools and supplies and/or exert force up to 70 lbs.; to work in hazardous or irritating environment, confined spaces and adverse weather or temperature conditions. Must have working knowledge of Federal, State, and university laws, regulations, codes and procedures regarding electrical safety in the work place, including PPE requirements for specific job tasks. Must have thorough knowledge of codes, products, and best current practices in the installation of electrical systems. Must be an effective communicator, both in oral and written form. Maryland Master Electrician License also required. Candidate must possess a valid MD driver’s license with no more than 5 points. Experience supervising an electrical services and maintenance organization in a university setting preferred.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
