Alzar School is seeking an energetic individual to join our office of Admissions team and expeditionary team. The successful candidate will have a proven professional track record, including work with similar organizations or companies and experience working with and around teenagers. He or she may also be asked to join expeditions as a trip leader, if appropriate.
This is a dynamic and demanding position, vitally important to the long-term success of the school. As such, the candidate must be prepared to be a flexible, committed member of a team. It is a seasonal position, generally during the school year.
Duties and Responsibilities
The desired candidate will be expected to:
Articulate and understand the vision, mission, and goals of Alzar School.
Demonstrate enthusiasm for interacting with colleagues, parents, volunteers and stakeholders.
Attend meetings and work sessions at the Alzar School campus as required.
Communicate effectively with sending schools to coordinate visits.
Add to and use a database (Salesforce.com) of potential/actual sending schools, potential students, and parents of potential students.
Travel extensively during the fall and winter presenting the Alzar School to interested students, parents, and other parties.
Arrange for travel, including purchasing flights, coordinating rental cars, and making hotel reservations for recruiting trips.
Read and evaluate admissions applications, interview potential students, and communicate decisions.
Work on assigned duties remotely (during recruiting trips).
Share residential life duties with other Alzar School staff.
Membership in larger staff team
The entire admissions staff is responsible for working with the other faculty and staff of Alzar School to maintain a culture of learning and leadership development and are expected to:
Maintain professional standards and to help develop constructive working relationships amongst other staff members.
Participate in frequent staff meetings.
Work in small groups of staff members to work on school improvement goals.
Membership in school community and larger community
The candidate will be a part of the larger Alzar School community. He/she is an adult role model and mentor for the students. He/she must behave in a manner that exemplifies the principles of the school.
The candidate will be expected to:
Help maintain a school culture which takes account of the richness and diversity of the school’s communities.
Seek opportunities to invite parents, community figures, businesses or other organizations into the school to enhance and enrich the school and its value to the wider community.
Traits and Qualities
The candidate must be a dynamic, engaging, and self-motivated person who will work to inspire, and lead. He/she must be effective at working independently and in collaboration with other staff. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate as many of the follow qualities as possible:

Qualifications & Experience
At minimum, a bachelor’s degree.
Experience working in a nonprofit and/or educational setting.
Recent experience working with teenagers.
Proficiency with a variety of computer software and applications, to include some of the following (but not limited to):`
All Google apps
Salesforce.com or other CRM software
Facebook, Twitter, and other social networking sites
Outdoor Skills and Competencies
Alzar School spends a significant portion of its time in the wilderness and front-country for adventure programming. Hiring preferences will be made for candidates who can provide leadership on expeditions, but strong admissions-only candidates will also be considered.
Candidates that possess advanced technical skills and be able to lead in ONE of the following activity areas may be asked to assist or lead on school expeditions:
Whitewater rafting (up to class IV)
Whitewater kayaking (up to class IV)
Backpacking (5-6 days in remote locations)
Physical Requirements & Work Conditions
Candidate must be willing to work unusual hours and provide creative solutions to a variety of issues. He or she can expect extended and irregular hours each week.
Additional Salary Information: Salary, Compensation, and Benefits
The initial wage for the Admissions representative and expeditionary staff position will be determined by Alzar School’s administrators, depending on experience and qualifications, and on a monthly salary (ranging from $1,800-$2,300, depending on experience). During time in Idaho, on campus housing will be provided, and participation in the school’s health insurance and retirement programs is available after initial vesting periods. Travel expenses, including hotel accommodations and a per diem food budget, will be provided by Alzar School while the representative is on the road. The position is anticipated to require 40 hours per week, approximately 7 months per year.
