Stanford's Department of Athletics, Physical Education and Recreation (DAPER) supports the nearly 900 student-athletes who compete on the 36 intercollegiate athletic teams sponsored by the university. It also supports the campus physical education, recreation and wellness initiatives. Stanford's intercollegiate athletics department is seen as the premier athletic program in the country, achieving the highest levels of success both in the classroom and on the field. The principal duties of the Sailing Team Boat Wright will be to repair and maintain the fleets of sailboats as well as powerboats. The other duties will be to also maintain the docks and ramps that the sailing team uses. This position will require extensive fiberglass and gelcoat repair as well as some general dock construction. The boat wright will be required to keep a record of all service on all boats and to keep a schedule for service and repair.
The Boat wright will also be required to help instruct in PE and summer camp sailing classes as well as help run home regattas for the varsity team.
The position will report to the Sailing Team Head Coach.
Other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning additional responsibilities that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications: -General knowledge and understanding of boats -General knowledge and understanding of powerboats -Thorough knowledge and application of tying a clove hitch, bowline, and cleat hitch. -CPR/First Aid Certified -US Sailing Level 1 Certification -High level of Fiberglass and boat maintenance experience
Desired Qualifications: CPR and First Aid Certification, Driver's License and Clean Driving Record. Bachelor's degree.
Knowledge and Skills: -Thorough knowledge and application of docking procedures. -An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures. -Knowledge and understanding of Microsoft Word, Excel and our internal website. -Fiberglass and rigging knowledge * - Consistent with its obligations under the law, the University will provide reasonable accommodation to any employee with a disability who requires accommodation to perform the essential functions of his or her job.
