Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Manager Student Center Supervisor (MSCS) for the Student Centers. This position reports to the Senior Director of Student Centers. The Manager Student Center Supervisor, within the standards, goals, and vision set by the Executive Director of Student Centers and Activities, has responsibility for providing leadership, management, and oversight for planning, organizing, coordinating, evaluating and directing operations, facilities, services, staff, contracted vendors, tenant relationships, information desk, event management, and budgets of two student centers including Busch and Livingston. In addition, the MSCS, as a senior member of the leadership team, supports and directs effective assessment, development, and implementation of policies, standards, learning outcomes, strategic initiatives and project prioritization for the Student Center Unit. Through positive role modeling, actions, decisions, supervision, and coaching, assists in ensuring the Student Center Unit Services Standards are consistently applied.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Directs, manages, and evaluates the facilities, functions, and staff to maintain a high level of service and ensure the Centers environment exudes a welcoming, friendly, and inclusive atmosphere for a diverse Rutgers University Campus.
Ensures the spaces and services within the Centers accommodate, facilitate, and support students, student organizations, university departments, Rutgers affiliates, and external agencies, organizations, and corporations (The Centers are open five to seven days a week and approximately 15 hours / day).
Hires, supervises, manages, coaches, and evaluates professional staff while indirectly supervising, graduate interns, and student staff.
Responsible for student payroll of over $460,000 and directs a routine and preventative maintenance program for the Centers.
Acts as the liaison to the Facilities Department for the assigned Centers.
Directs and supervises professional staff responsible for the day-to-day management of the Centers; ensuring staff successfully fulfill all aspects of event management for reservations in and adjacent to the Centers.
Acts as the first point of emergency contact for center-specific needs including sheltering students or members of the community in an emergency.
Responsible for safe and efficient operation of five contracted food vendors which serve more than 800,000 customers annually.
Minimum Education and Experience:
A Master's Degree in College Student Personnel, Higher Education Administration, or Hospitality Management .
Also requires at least three years' experience in student center / student union management, facility management and event planning.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent administrative, detail-oriented organizational and communication skills; demonstrated ability to work in a diverse environment; team and training/facilitation skills; project management experience; problem solving in a highly active environment; and the ability to complete multiple and concurrent tasks are required.
Proven successful experience working with diverse groups of staff and students is required.
Proven effective experience in recruiting, hiring, training, coaching, and mentoring effective teams of students and professionals is required.
Experience advising and working with diverse student organization and college students required.
Proven proficiency with the use of event management software, such as EMS or R25, in addition to experience with Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher, is preferred.
Demonstrated competency with setting up and operating basic audio-visual equipment, providing sound reinforcement is preferred.
Experience in coordinating or managing renovation or construction projects with total project budget in excess of one million dollars is preferred.
Must be willing to work irregular and flexible hours, including evening, weekends, and some holidays.
Proven proficiency with the use of event management software, such as EMS or R25, in addition to experience with Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
