Primary technical resource for electrical engineering issues in Utilities & Energy Services. Responsible for detailed engineering evaluations, troubleshooting, analysis of failures and interruptions, electrical project scope preparations, electrical project management, and design/calculations related to electric power generation, protective relaying, power factor, power quality, controls and SCADA, DCS, and related plant and campus electrical matters. Supervise utility personnel in instrumentation and controls (I&C) shop and electrical shop.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelorâ™s degree in Electrical Engineering.
Five years in electrical distribution/distributed control systems, including two years in electrical engineering design and/or project management, and three years of supervisory experience.
Some experience working with protective relaying, switching, and substation and plant distributed control systems (DCS).
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Read, prepare, and analyze detailed electrical system drawings and plans.
Working knowledge of electrical utility distribution systems including: 12.5KV, 4.16KV, 2.4KV; motor control, control systems, relays, transformers, circuit breakers, busing substations SCADA monitoring systems.
Familiarity with plant distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic control (PLC) systems.
Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
Required Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Texas Class C Driver's License or the ability to obtain within 30 days of employment.
Preferred Licenses and Certifications:
Professional Engineer in the State of Texas.

Provides leadership, advice, and supervision for Electrical Services and Instrumentation and Control (I&C) staff. This may require driving a university vehicle to different locations on campus.
Supervises Electrical Services and I&C personnel on predictive, preventive, and reparative maintenance of electrical equipment and controls. Develops and improves electrical and controls equipment maintenance procedures.
Develops and implements electrical maintenance and improvement projects for electrical power production, electrical distribution systems, and distributed control systems (DCS).
Develops and implements electrical and distributed control systems (DCS) reliability improvement programs.
Works with outside agencies performing contract jobs in utility production facilities and on campus. Maintains communications with Bryan Texas Utilities (BTU) on power transmission, and coordinates with Facilities Planning & Construction and Engineering Design & Construction Services (EDCS) on new utilities and building projects.
Troubleshoots, analyzes, and resolves electrical problems/failures. Completes thorough root cause analysis and incident reports for incidents such as power outages, equipment failures, and other incidents associated with electrical, instrumentation, and controls.
Supervises and works with designated standby personnel. Reviews all utility work order requests and distributes to appropriate supervisors.
Must be able to climb stairs and do light to moderate lifting. Contributes to a safe work environment by reporting accidents and unsafe working conditions, uses proper personal protective equipment, follows safety procedures outlined in Material Safety Data Sheets, and participates in safety training.
