Job Requisition Number: 25348. Capital Strategies provides an integrated approach to planning and development of UC Berkeley’s facilities. The teams work together to bring planning, construction, and development services to the campus with a focus on customer service. In support of the campus’s mission, our goals are to maximize operating efficiencies and revenue generation opportunities across all (on- and off-campus) real estate.
Capital Projects manages the design, construction, retrofitting, and restoration of campus buildings and their surroundings. Many skilled professionals work in C&D as architects, landscape architects, planners, engineers, inspectors, construction specialists, contract administrators, accountants, and administrative personnel, all of whom work to serve the campus community.
•Directs and supervises accounting staff to complete assignments using established guidelines, procedures and standards. •Provides guidance to subordinates within the latitude of established company policies. •Assists staff with procedures to complete reconciliation of project ledgers in BFS and CP’s internal PRISM and Unifier systems. •Ensures that UC and UCB general accounting and plant accounting policies are being adhered to in a consistent manner. •Point of contact for internal and external auditors in all matters relating to project accounting. •Trains new staff on new procedures, software, and systems. •Follows established practices and procedures in analyzing situations and assignments. •Monitors daily operations of accounting unit. •Oversees daily processing of invoices to vendors. •Monitors vouchers pending files to quickly resolve all issues. •Ensure deadlines are met for internal and external customers. •Monitor month-end and year-end processes. •Supervise closeout of projects and PRRs in a timely manner. •Responsible for ensuring that CP Accounting meets fiscal close deadlines. •Assign projects to accounting staff; ensure workloads are balanced. •Requires full knowledge of own area of functional responsibility. •Interacts daily with subordinates and/or functional peer groups. •Interaction normally involves exchange or presentation of accounting information. •Presents / exchanges information with functional peers in campus Disbursements,Procurement Services, and the COO. •Point of contact for campus Plant Accounting and Campus Budget Office for all matters relating to project accounting. •Interprets UCOP and UC procedures and policies for Capital Projects staff. •Establishes and recommends changes to policies which affect the department. •Analyzes the workflow and internal accounting processes to create efficiency and eliminate redundancy.•Demonstrated knowledge of financial transactions and financial systems, as well as related policy, accounting, and regulatory compliance requirements. •Must have strong skills using Microsoft Office and common desktop/web applications. •Position requires strong inter-personal skills and ability to work effectively across the organization at all levels. •Skills must include sophisticated service orientation, ability to multi-task effectively in a varied, high volume environment, sound judgment and decision-making, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems, and effective verbal and written communication skills. Education/Training: •Bachelor’s degree in related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
