Our purpose is to provide a safe and attractive physical campus environment for the University community that is conducive to learning, living and working. To accomplish this goal, we strive to provide excellent overall services in the areas of facilities maintenance, custodial services, grounds maintenance and overall safety. This position is a continuous backup for receiving and/or delivery of the goods, merchandise, stock items, equipment, furniture, mail, paper products, refuse and recyclables.
- Operate tractor with a three point lift. - Tow dumpsters to main compactor. - Raise dumpster with front-end loader to empty garbage in compactor. - Return dumpster to collections sites. - Collect waste from receptacles on campus malls. - Operate self-contained hydraulic packer truck in collection of campus garbage. - Empty packer truck at transfer station. - Wash out packer truck daily. - Pickup, sweep or hose down around compactor and remove snow from dumpster sites and mall containers. - Operate equipment to pick up recycle material such as paper, aluminum, cardboard and glass. Deliver to recycle center. - Repair and maintain materials and equipment used in the recycle program. - Operate equipment to move and deliver items such as custodial supplies, equipment materials, furniture and surplus property. - Operate equipment to load moving van for office moving. - Participate in the delivery and set-up of special events such as commencement, concerts, elections and invited speakers. - Pick up and deliver hazardous materials, medical waste and universal waste. - Perform warehouse duties: Inventory warehouse, inventory and deliver ADA furniture. - Perform a variety of maintenance duties such as window washing lighting maintenance, fire extinguisher's maintenance, furniture repair, drape and blind repair, wash and dry dust mops, entry-way maintenance (remove snow and ice, sweep, clean cigarette urns, plow snow in winter using tractor with blade or truck mounted snow plow) raise and lower flags and other related duties. - Perform duties in central receiving such as inventory, log received items and deliver. - Use hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, delivery vans and delivery trucks. - May work in Central Stores and Mail Services as backup. - Attend safety meetings and safety training sessions. - Other duties as assigned.
Ability to perform the job duties of the position and meet the physical demands of the working conditions.
Two years' experience driving small, medium or large trucks.
Experience working productively while unsupervised for extended periods.
Experience producing work that meets both quantity and quality expectations while still meeting demanding deadlines.
Ability to work in highly sensitive areas and maintain security and confidentiality.
Requires a Class B CDL with air brake endorsement within 6 months of hire.
Excellent communications skills.
OR applicable combination of education and/or experience which demonstrates the ability to perform the essential functions of the position.
Training in: Driving route efficiency, Forklift safety, Accident and safety training
Experience in: Furniture warehouse organization, Special event set-ups, Moving furniture, Receiving and delivery of UPS, parcel post, vendor shipments, Computer experience recording/posting all items received, Pickup and delivery of US mail, mail rating, Loading of trucks, tie downs and axle weights

Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
Salary: $3,267/month with periodic increases up to $3,684/month
Schedule/Appointment: Variable according to need; Mon-Fri 5:00 AM - 1:30 PM, 40 hours per week / WFSE Bargaining Unit 1
Working Conditions: This position may work indoors and outdoors, at times in hot/cold/noisy/dirty/wet/confined areas such as mechanical rooms, manholes and excavations, and may need to physically access work areas with the equipment and tools necessary for completion of the job. This often requires standing/crawling/bending/walking/climbing while carrying/pulling/pushing/lifting associated with equipment or tools. Occasional overtime is required and shift work may be required. May need to drive a service vehicle in congested areas. Scheduled hours and days off may vary depending on the needs of the department. May be required to work weekends, evenings and holidays. This position is subject to unplanned overtime including emergency call back situations. Occasional travel may be required. The incumbent will work indoors and outdoors, including working in inclement weather during daylight and dark hours. Employee will be exposed to hazards typical of waste and recyclables collection, including but not limited to debris, broken glass or other sharp, broken materials.
