Chief Objective of Position Christopher Newport University is seeking applicants for a part-time Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. This position will assist the head coach with various aspects of the women’s basketball program to include but not be limited to recruiting, player development, scouting opponents, public relations, community outreach, monitor academic progress of student-athletes and other duties as assigned. This position will last approximately nine months and does not entitle the incumbent to Commonwealth of Virginia benefits.
Work Tasks Christopher Newport University is seeking an individual who is highly motivated, highly organized and possess the ability to work a flexible schedule including nights and occasional overnight travel. The successful candidate will actively ensure compliance with all Christopher Newport University, CAC, and NCAA Division III rules and regulations.
This position is designated as a “responsible employee” who has the authority to redress sexual violence, who has the duty to report incidents of sexual violence or other student misconduct, or who a student could reasonably believe has this authority or duty.
Develops and maintains very positive and professional customer service and/or relations within the office/department and with all constituencies to include students, faculty, staff, guests, and employees. Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude and treats everyone with dignity and respect. Fully supports the “Student’s First” value at CNU and routinely goes the extra mile in providing service. Reviews and communicates safety issues to assure a safe and healthy workplace and a reduction in work related absence. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities (KSA's) required Knowledge of National Collegiate Athletics Association rules and regulations. Skill in training or instructing student athletes; excellent interpersonal communication skills. Demonstrated organizational and time management skills. Demonstrated skills using a personal computer. Ability to analyze situations and develop solutions; travel and work non-traditional hours; manage people and projects. Ability to foster positive internal and external public relations.
Required Education Must have a Master’s Degree in a related field; or a Bachelor’s Degree in a related field and work experience at a level which equates to an advanced degree.
Experience Required Previous coaching or playing experience at the university or college level.
