FUNCTION: The Director of Facilities is responsible for the School’s physical assets and the maintenance and operations of the facilities and grounds of approximately 290,000 square feet of space, 26 buildings and 105 acres. Responsible for the smooth operation of the total plant with focus on improving facilities and analyzing operations. Oversees scheduling for total campus maintenance based on the school year cycle. The Director of Facilities will report to the CFO and will assist with the development, implementation, monitoring and compliance with all school departmental policies, budgets, short term and long range planning to meet the needs in support of the overall mission of the School.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILTIES
Responsible for the oversight of department personnel. Organizes, plans, directs and supervises all departmental personnel in the areas of maintenance, carpentry, plumbing, painting, electrical, grounds, security and housekeeping. Oversees and evaluates technicians, buildings, grounds and all other facilities staff. Delegate’s appropriate responsibilities to designated staff. Provides recruitment of necessary personnel;
Plans, directs and supervises all mechanical aspects of the department in regard to emergency and preventative maintenance programs. Recommends action to the CFO in regards to mechanical modifications and or saving suggestions;
Plans, directs and supervises all horticultural aspects of the grounds. Responsible for maintenance of existing equipment and recommendations to the CFO for replacement or repair of said equipment. Works closely with Grounds Staff;
Coordinates all necessary arrangements for school and special events regarding set-ups and teardowns;
Responsible for preparing the annual facilities operations and capital budgets and administering those budgets including but not limited to departmental purchasing and budget monitoring, maintaining departmental reports, bids, statistical surveys and any other data required. Responsible for purchasing, stock levels, storage and utilization of supplies;
Responsible for coordinating and overseeing the work of all outside contractors to ensure compliance with contractual agreements and budgetary restrictions. Responsible for coordination with town, state and federal agencies in regards to permits, inspections and compliance with laws and regulations;
Oversees and updates Emergency Response Manual in conjunction with the Director of Security. Serves as member of the Safety and Security Committee and works very closely with the School’s Sustainability Coordinator in making recommendations for sustainability and energy conservation strategies;
Creates and oversees on-going campus replacement plans for facilities and equipment;
Works with the CFO, Head of School, and Trustees on renovation and new building construction. Oversees and coordinates campus construction projects;
Track work orders in Schooldude. Assign work orders to appropriate personnel. Ensure completion of work orders.
To perform other duties as assigned by the CFO, and the Head of School.
EDUCATON AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management or related degree is strongly preferred; or the equivalent combination of education and experience. 10+ years of relevant experience in Associate Director/Director role in large plant or campus is preferred.
Prior experience in managing and leading people.

Executive level skills, with a strong business orientation, and a track record of working to goals and objectives, and measuring success in concrete and tangible ways;
Strong systems and strategic thinking capabilities, and a demonstrated ability to be a successful agent of transformation in support of his/her organization’s mission and goals;
Ability to remain calm under pressure and react quickly and efficiently to in cases of emergency;
Must have the ability to assist if needed in all areas of facilities operations;
Must have the ability to work outside in all weather. Must be able to occasionally lift up to 100 lbs and frequently lift up to 50 lbs;
Occasional need to work weekends and evenings in cases of emergency and special events. Will be responsible for establishing a 24/7 on-call schedule of facilities staff.
