Daviess-Martin County REMC (DMREMC) located in Loogootee, Indiana is seeking a qualified applicant to fill the position of Journeyman Lineperson as a result of a recent retirement. DMREMC is an electric distribution cooperative serving approximately 8,000 meters in portions of the south-central Indiana counties of Daviess, Martin and Lawrence. This rural electric cooperative is seeking an experienced lineman to fill this important position. This is a great and exciting opportunity for a journeyman lineman who possesses leadership skills, has a desire to learn and who works well with people to bring out their full potential.
Major responsibilities include: Performing the required work in connection with the construction, maintenance, operation and service of electric distribution lines, protective equipment, substations and associated equipment owned and operated by the Cooperative. Knowing the applicable portions of the National Electric Code, the National Electrical Safety Code and RUS specifications, and other regulatory and/or instructional guides in regard to line construction, service and maintenance while furthering the work team development and skill levels in accordance with established policies, procedures and plans.
This position is included under the cooperative’s collective bargaining unit agreement with the IBEW Local Union 1393. Preferred candidates will possess the qualifications listed below and be able to perform based on knowledge and proven experience.
Must be interested in providing superior service to our members and willing to develop in a position which involves increasing responsibilities under the supervision of the Manager of Operations.
Must be high school graduate. Completion of a credentialed lineman’s school and/or program is preferred, but not mandatory. Prior applicable experience, especially in an electric distribution cooperative environment may be substituted.
Possess a thorough knowledge of cooperative / RUS distribution line standards, principles and practices along with experience with a rural electric distribution system is preferred, but not mandatory.?
At least one year’s experience as Fourth Year Lineperson or the equivalent and have satisfactorily performed the duties of Fourth Year Lineperson or the equivalent, and demonstrated ability and skill in connecting overhead and underground equipment.
Must possess a thorough working knowledge of the functions of overhead and underground line equipment along with the use of "hot line" tools.
Possess a working knowledge of the overhead and underground line circuits and their voltages within the system.
Ability to pass the Cooperative’s physical qualifications as this job calls for stringent physical requirements in the interest of safety, because the work demands a high degree of coordination, dexterity, endurance and strength.
Must possess and demonstrate an attitude that is adaptable to conform to irritating situations when dealing with member/consumers on service and other problems and be a team player to positively promote the functionality of the REMC workforce.
Must represent the cooperative in a very professional manner and maintain a high level of professionalism in all aspects.
A new employee is subject to a nine-month probationary period.
