The purpose of this position is to provide onsite supervision as well as hands-on support for a very large fiber optic and copper project. Job duties will require supervision and training of subcontractors (as per BICSI standards), which will include new placement of fiber and copper cabling, terminations, splicing, troubleshooting and repairs, testing, and documentation. This position will assure national electrical codes, industry standards, and contractor/client specifications are adhered including but not limited to (BICSI, ANSI, IEEE, NEC, General Contractor/ Client requirements, and those having local authority/jurisdiction). This position will assure the highest quality of craftsmanship and safety standards are adhere to at all times.
Fiber Optic cable placement/Installation, connectors (SC, LC), fiber optic splicing (mechanical and fusion), and testing of optical fiber cable.
Placement/Installation of UTP cabling systems including terminations and testing
Cabinet, racking, and ladder installation
Expertise using TDR, Light Meter and Source, and OTDR and software documentation
Skilled at troubleshooting and repair of copper and optical fiber cable systems.
BICSI safety best practice understanding
Ability to read and interrupt blueprints, drawings, and specifications
Clear understanding of BICSI bonding and grounding and fire-stopping practices.
Knowledge of BICSI administration standard for labeling scheme (e.g., ANSI/TIA-606)
How to use various installation equipment such as jack stands, lifts, scaffolding, cable pullers/tuggers, powdered actuated tools, drills, etc.
New construction experience
Training and Skills:
5-7 years of technician experience
2 years of crew leading experience
Good client-facing and internal communication skills
Computer skills with the ability to use email and Microsoft Word and Excel (at least entry level)
Additional training preferred, but not required:
BICSI Installer 2, and or BICSI Technician Training
Corning Fiber Installation (CFI)
Corning Fiber Testing & Troubleshooting (CFTT)
Fluke DTX-1800 Fiber and Copper testing certification preferred
