Job Requisition Number: 25752. Facilities Services is comprised of seven separate units which include: the AVC Office, Business and Information Services, Campus Facilities Operation Services, Custodial Services, Grounds/Recycling, Engineering/Utilities and Support Services. Facilities mission is to continuously improve facility services for the campus community in partnership with clients and staff. Position is a helper position in the unit and supports Elevator Mechanics work for campus clients under general supervision of Lead Elevator Mechanic or Certified Elevator Mechanic.
TRADE EXPERTISE AND PROBLEM SOLVING Incumbent performs elevator mechanic duties under the supervision of a certified conveyance mechanic until certified in the construction, maintenance and alteration or repair of building elevators, wheel chair lifts, dumbwaiters, conveyors and moving stages. Install, replace, repair, clean and maintain electrical motors, wiring controls, alarms, lighting, mechanical and hydraulic spaces, mechanisms and devices typical of elevators and other type lifts. Support shutdowns and project schedules to minimize interference with others. Perform plan review, prepare isometric drawings in detail showing measurements and materials with information obtained from blueprints and verbal instructions. Perform complex electrical hydraulic and mechanical troubleshooting. Wire panels, switches, control boards, electronic circuit boards, motors, pumps and other mechanisms. Troubleshoot complex computer control devices and software control operating programs. Select correct tools, techniques and methods for handling specific elevator projects by applying working knowledge of codes and the skills of a crafts person. Serve as liaison with clients, relaying their needs and requirements to the appropriate department or superintendent.
Interact with shop personnel. Order supplies and materials; interact with suppliers, engineers, contractors and campus clients. Prepare status reports as needed. Review time keeping, complete paper work in a neat and timely manner.
Adherence to the scheduling of work through the work management program. Consult shop lead for technical information.
SAFETY Adhere to all university and departmental safety guidelines. Attend job-related and safety training as required.
OTHER Perform other duties as assigned.• Must have experience in elevator engineering, mechanical or electrical apprenticeship program or equivalent. • Must have at least three years journeyman experience in a comparable position or related experience in a university, engineering firm, hospital or large building complex. • Education and training can be through documented experience and/or professional development through an accredited college or university. • Shall demonstrate working knowledge of local, state, building and uniform fire, mechanical, electrical and elevator codes and standards. • Must be able to interpret complicated circuitry designs and have a good understanding of electronic devices such as relays and controllers. • Must be able to work in confined spaces. • Post Certification: must be available to respond to emergencies, work on-call, weekend on-call, watch, rotating swing shift and holidays. • Must be able to read and interpret information from equipment manufacturers’ manuals, service requests, layout sketches, blueprints, appropriate state and local government codes, trade-specific manuals and practices. • Ability to distinguish colors and use of color codes effectively. • Ability to communicate clearly over the telephone and two-way radio. • Ability to execute all job assignments in a timely manner • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with elevator staff. • Must possess knowledge and ability to utilize correct tools, techniques and methods for handling specific elevator mechanic projects by applying thorough knowledge of codes and the skills of a craftsperson. • Ability to prepare isometric drawings in detail showing measurements and materials with information obtained from blueprints and verbal instructions. • Ability to climb 10 flights of stairs with a minimum amount of tools to repair elevators and to rescue trapped passengers with or without reasonable accommodation. • Ability to safely move supplies and objects up to 75 pounds with or without a reasonable accommodation. • Must possess excellent communication skills and ability to interact in a positive manner with campus community, including students, building managers, academic personnel, and craft personnel, in a multicultural environment. • Ability to track jobs to completion and prioritize requirements; able to work and support shutdowns and project schedules to minimize interference with others. • Ability to read and interpret information from equipment manufactures manuals, service requests, layout sketches, blueprints, appropriate state and local government codes, trade-specific manuals and practices, and to determine how the fixture or equipment should perform. • Knowledge of relevant building codes and regulations. • Ability to distinguish colors and use color codes effectively. • Ability to communicate clearly over the telephone and two-way radio. • Ability to execute all job assignments in a timely manner.
