Position Summary: The Painter prepares and paints construction and maintenance projects.
The schedule for this position is: Monday-Thursday - 8am-5pm, Friday - 8am-1:30pm
Smooth surfaces using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool and remove old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch to prepare surfaces for painting
Fill nail holes, cracks and joints with putty, plaster, or other filler
Select pre-mixed paints, or mix required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors
Paint surfaces using brushes, spray gun or paint rollers. Simulate wood grain, marble, brick or tile effects. Apply paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects
Prepare and cover interior walls and ceilings of rooms with decorative wallpaper or fabric
Erect scaffolding or set up ladders to perform tasks above ground level. Keep work areas neat and clean
May provide instruction and guidance to Painters Helper
Perform duties assigned as a member of the Fire Brigade
Perform other related duties as assigned
Experience & Educational Background:
High School Diploma and 3 years of experience in the painting field is required
Construction industry experience is preferred
Valid State drivers license is preferred
Skills & Competencies:
Must possess the strength and dexterity needed to perform the job and the physical ability to move equipment as necessary
Must adhere to operational safety rules and regulations as deemed by the University
Must be able to follow directives and possess good communication skills and ability to interact with building/office occupants effectively
Respirator Fit Testing may be required
