Job Summary/Basic Function: GENERALDESCRIPTION: Performs a variety of tasks related to general maintenance of university grounds and buildings. Employees in this classification are required to perform manual labor with the assistance of various mechanical equipment. Each employee will be given daily assignments and will be responsible for completing these tasks. Assignments may vary from day to day. Variable shifts are expected.
EXAMPLES OF WORKPERFORMED:
Performs routine tasks such as trash pick-up, trash collection, recycling collections, event set-ups, pressure washing, moving furniture, equipment and supplies.
Operates and maintains equipment used in daily performance of duties.
Experience Prefer to have experience in the general and routine maintenance of facilities and grounds.
Education/License Graduation from high school or vocational school, or any equivalent combination of experience, education, or training which provides the following knowledge, skill, and abilities.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities: Working knowledge of general maintenance methods and techniques. Ability to operate, maintain, and care for the equipment used in the fulfillment of these job duties. Ability to follow oral and written instructions. Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with fellow employees, faculty, staff, and students. Must have knowledge of the hazards and required safety precautions associated with the use and operation of the equipment used in the work described above. Must demonstrate the skills required or ability to obtain training needed to operate the equipment described above. Must comply with the established University, and departmental rules and regulations. Must have the ability to operate and perform basic computer skills.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS: Must have physical ability to perform physical work in a normal maintenance operation environment and tolerate inclement working conditions such as working in heat of summer, cold of winter, and raining weather. Lifting/Carrying: Routinely lifts over 25 lbs. and sometimes exceeds 75 lbs. Pushing/Pulling: Routinely pushes mowers, operate edgers, weed eaters, blowers, and hand tools including shovels, rakes, hoes, and brooms. o Body Positions: o Standing: Frequently o Walking: Frequently o Running: Not required except in emergency situations. o Sitting: Occasionally while pulling weeds and riding to assignments o Climbing: Occasionally climbs ladders for tree pruning or tall hedge clipping
Body Movements: o Bending/Stooping: Routinely o Squatting: Routinely o Twisting: Routinely o Reaching: Routinely Hand Use Must be able to handle typical landscaping and grounds work, tools, i.e. shovels, rakes, hoes, weed eaters, and edges. Sense of Touch: Must be able to sense heat, cold, or sharp objects. Hearing: Must be able communicate effectively with or without the assistance of communication devices. Vision: Must be able to work in normal lighted areas.
MENTALREQUIREMENTS: Mathematics: Must be able to count, add, subtract, multiply and divide. Remembering: Must be able to follow and recall simple instructions. Language Ability: o Reading: Must be able to comprehend written instructions. o Writing: Must be able to write or print legibly to construct simple and compound sentences that can be understood by those or reasonable intelligence. o Speaking: Must have the ability to communicate with logic o Reasoning: Must be able to make simple decisions and request advice for complex problems.
