St. Christopher’s School, the largest all-boys school in Virginia and one of the largest and oldest boys’ schools in the Mid-Atlantic region, seeks a new Director of Development for the first time in nearly 40 years. Serving nearly 1,000 boys in grades JK-12 in Richmond, Virginia, St. Christopher’s prides itself on being a community devoted to bringing out the best in every boy. Our Episcopal foundation is at the center of what we do, and we care most about developing young men who possess honor and integrity.
With a start date of on or near July 1, 2019, the School’s new Director of Development will assume a senior leadership role at a school blessed with an established culture of philanthropy. St. Christopher’s has one of the highest alumni giving rates of any independent day school in the country, routinely 45% to 50% annually. Board members, parents, faculty/staff, grandparents, and friends also contribute generously to the School, helping to create a spirit of philanthropy that preserves and enhances the educational program.
Total unrestricted Annual Giving has set records in consecutive years, nearing $1.7 million in the 2017-2018 school year. The School successfully completed a $46 million campaign in September 2017, and is presently six months into the public stage of its Orchestrating Leadership capital campaign, with $20 million raised toward a $31 million goal. Funds raised from the campaign will go toward construction and endowment of a new 30,000 square-foot Arts Center and Recital Hall ($21 million), with an additional $10 million earmarked for endowment, focused on need-based financial aid, faculty growth and development, and innovative programs for our boys.
St. Christopher’s boasts nearly $81 million in total endowment assets, which is inclusive of over $10 million in real estate assets located contiguous to the campus and rented or mortgaged to St. Christopher’s faculty and staff.
