The Food Services Assistant will be responsible for:
- Preparing and delivering hot and cold food items for patient room service, caf/diner and catering in a timely manner and at the required temperature.
- Following standardized recipes and daily production sheets and accurately recording amounts produced.
- Completing next day's preparation assignments. Routinely testing food for quality, appearance, flavor, temperature, texture, color and doneness.
- Following established guidelines, recipes and procedures for assigned areas including agespecific feeding and specialized diets including Diabetic, Ketogenic, BMT, Sodium Restricted, Low-Fat or brand specific requirements.
- Filling in for senior cooks and patient cook during breaks/vacations. Assisting in the preparation of cafe evening menu items with products prepared by senior cooks.
- Following and monitoring H.A.C.C.P. food preparation and storage procedures. Following F.I.F.O. principle of food rotation.
- Following department policies and procedures for hand washing, hair restraints, cooling/reheating foods and taste testing.
- Storing, holding and transporting cold food items at 40F or below and hot food items at 140F or above. Testing food temperatures with approved food thermometer and records in log.
- Wrapping, labeling and dating all food items and storing in designated area in an organized manner.
- Cleaning and sanitizing all food contact surfaces and equipment after every use to avoid contamination. Recording ppm of sanitizer solution in designated log.
- Maintaining high levels of sanitation of all equipment by adhering to department policies and procedures, Health Department codes and J.C.A.H.O. regulations.
- Possibly performing cashier duties. Following department/brand specific cash handling procedures.
- Maintaining clear communication channels and constructive, sensitive relationships with coworkers, supervisors, patients, customers, parents and all hospital staff.
To qualify, you must have:
- A High School Diploma.
- The ability to read and understand written instructions, add and subtract numbers and make comparisons between numbers and letters.
- Six to twelve months of previous experience.
- The understanding to be able to respond to simple written or verbal instructions, questions or requests for information.
- Occasional contact with patients and/or visitors, which involves courtesy.
- Comprehension of weights, measures, recipe conversion and portion control to minimize waste.
- The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing and provide empathy in difficult interpersonal situations.
- The ability to work with diverse internal and external constituencies.
