Description Tufts University's Facilities department provides professional, high quality and cost effective services to the faculty, staff and students of the University. Each Facilities employee is expected to meet the needs of our customers and to strive to exceed their expectations Primarily responsible for performing repairs and maintenance ( and possible installations) to a variety of equipment including, but not limited to: refrigeration, air conditioning, electric motors, heating units, motor controllers, waste/supply lines, light commercial furnaces, boilers, burners, intake and exhaust fans, VAV boxes. A Preventative Maintenance Mechanic must be able to install, repair, adjust, maintain and troubleshoot all major and minor building related equipment, plus: Preventative maintenance of all mechanical systems (including: HVAC, plumbing, and electrical). Working knowledge in operation and maintenance of hermetic and semi-hermetic fans. Troubleshoot and repair high velocity AHU fan systems and a variety of pneumatic and electronic control systems. Supervise one or more maintenance mechanics and those in other job classifications Troubleshoot and inspect refrigeration, heating, air conditioning and ventilation systems and components. – make repairs not requiring specific trades' license. Troubleshoot and inspect electric motors (3-phase and 1-phase). – make repairs not requiring specific trades' license. Troubleshoot and inspect electric motor controls (contractors, starters, relays, disconnect, thermostats, etc.). – make repairs not requiring specific trades' license. Troubleshoot light commercial furnaces, boilers, burners and related controls (oil and gas). – make repairs not requiring specific trades' license. Troubleshoot, inspect and repair various types of water pumps, including centrifugal pump systems. Troubleshoot and inspect Intake and exhaust fans. Troubleshoot and inspect unit heaters (hot water, steam and electric) Building Automation System (BAS) – University currently utilizes Johnson Controls Metasys & Schneider Electric systems.

Qualifications Basic Requirements: Must hold a current Massachusetts refrigeration, plumbing or electrical license. At least 5 years of professional experience in the facilities maintenance industry. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent GED certificate. Valid driver's license Preferred Qualifications: Excellent logistical knowledge of the Boston Metropolitan area and University campuses. On-call and overtime hours as needed, per assigned schedule. Good hygiene and cleanliness is required at all times. Must adhere to the University's uniform policy. Follow rules and regulations as described in the University & CBA Handbook. Knowledge of basic computer operating systems. Previous use of Maximo a plus. Must be able to read and comprehend construction drawings. Candidate must be physically able to meet requirements.
