Description The Furniture & General Supplies Purchasing Agent has the responsibility to provide purchasing and specification support to Campus Planning and other university departments for new construction and major renovation projects involving furniture purchases and/or interior design services. Provides the same furniture purchasing and specification support to individual departments purchasing furniture, interior design services and general purpose supplies used by all university departments. The Purchasing Agent is the prime interface between university customers and suppliers for purchase transaction support including processing and dispatching purchase orders, resolving billing disputes and insuring customer satisfaction. The Purchasing Agent supports the Sourcing Officer in supplier negotiations, supplier performance and contract deployment. Procures all materials and services from authorized suppliers as required Attend customer project meetings representing Purchasing Perform furniture specification reviews, take offs and furniture selection support Requests price quotes/proposals. Negotiates best purchasing terms & conditions taking into account all customer requirements and existing supplier agreements Perform installation site inspections and "punch list" follow ups. Processes all purchase requisitions and issues purchase orders; expedites deliveries Assists customers in defining specifications and sourcing options. Manages performance of contract furniture suppliers as member of Purchasing furniture team Preferred Skills and Experiences Experience in interior design work, commercial furniture sales and project support Experience working in a complex university, hospital or not for profit organization environment Experience with CAD design software Experience in working in a team environment Problem solving skills Strong oral, written and presentation communication skills Proven customer service orientation and project management experience Self-organized Well-developed PC skills especially with Microsoft Office suite. Experience with internet-based procurement systems (e.g., SciQuest, Ariba, etc.) is also desired but not required.
