Responsible for the proper and timely completion of work performed by landscape services employees (in an assigned area. Properly charges the work of employees he/she directs and approves their time cards. Schedules, monitors and documents over time in accordance with established policies and procedures. Requests necessary materials and maintains appropriate inventories. Provides responsive customer support with emphasis on customer satisfaction. Assists and advises customers and provides follow-up on progress and status of work. Performs other core skills of the trade and related duties as required. Performs work related to the campus indoor and outdoor planting, landscape development plans and Elm and tree program. Interprets drawings; stakes out ground plans and directs and assists work crews involved in the plantings. Prunes, removes, sprays, and fertilizes trees and shrubs. Under direction of the Landscape Services Supervisor or Manager, conducts a program of winter care for trees and shrubs including antidessicant spraying and tying up of specimens susceptible to winter damage. Oversees and is responsible for workers as assigned.
Works under the supervision of the Landscape Services Supervisor and/or Manager. Responsible for the daily coordination of services provided by a group of skilled landscape services employees (Property Maintenance Workers, Horticulturist and Truck Drivers). Provides all aspects of landscape work, including, but not limited to care and maintenance of lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers throughout the University.

Five to ten years experience in landscape work preferably in horticulture, nursery work, and landscaping construction as well as some specialized education. A thorough knowledge of the maintenance and upkeep of lawns via irrigation, mowing, edging, hand trimming, fertilizing, and weed control required. Must be able to sod and seed, plant, prune, water, spray, weed, and clean shrub plantings. Must have thorough knowledge of the construction and care of landscape including gardens, trees, and shrubs, as well as a thorough knowledge of weeds, diseases, and materials used in landscape maintenance; knowledge of the techniques of tree climbing including removal, pruning, cabling, etc. Must be able to operate a variety of equipment and tools including, but not limited to: hand mowers, rototillers, lawn sweepers, leaf blowers, salt spreaders, bombardiers, bobcats, snow plows, and throwers.
Special Requirements: Must be available for snow removal and emergency/disaster response throughout the University. Must be accessible and available early morning and late night hours. Required to wear a clean, neat uniform and maintain a professional image at all times. Frequently required to work overtime for snow and other emergencies and to support University events. Vacations are not normally granted January through June. Must possess a valid Massachusetts driver's license, Massachusetts hydraulic hoisting license and a Massachusetts pesticide license.
Physical Requirements: Position requires prolonged outdoor work often in inclement weather conditions. Frequent climbing, bending, stooping and reaching, occasional work in restricted spaces and frequent carrying/transporting heavy loads up to 50 lb.

Able to work independently and take initiative when necessary as well as capable of working as a member of a team and in conjunction with other trades. Must observe and comply with all standard safety codes and practices and perform work in accordance with the recognized trade and University standards. Must be quality-focused, customer service-oriented and able to routinely communicate with peers and customers, clearly and professionally. Must have an avid interest in outdoor work. Ability to perform routine maintenance of landscape equipment and tools preferred. Drives department vehicles including a hydraulic lift vehicle.
