Trades Specialist I (Mechanic) - Facilities & Services 09829
The Transportation & Parking unit at West Virginia University is seeking applications for a Trades Specialist I position. This position will perform maintenance, diagnostics, and repair to fleet vehicles used by West Virginia University personnel. This position will also lead the evaluation/decommission process on surplus vehicle, and provide assistance on bus repair and recovery.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will:
Perform diagnostics & evaluate repairs needed on state owned vehicles. Perform vehicle repairs, including: electrical, steering, brake systems, heating and cooling systems, fuel systems and engine repair. Perform WV state inspections, oil changes and other vehicle preventative maintenance. Mount and balance tires. Understand and follow safe.
Be responsible for other duties as assigned related to all transportation and parking operations
Review Fleet Management protocols, perform field data collections and assessment of vehicles located on regional campuses. Responsible for decommissioning of vehicles submitted for surplus, including removal of all police equipment and decals. Preform a complete evaluation of the vehicle and document its known condition and issues for use when listing the vehicle on gov.deal.com.
Assist Bus Services in many areas, including local recovery during breakdowns, bus drivers' mandatory pre-trip bus checks, removal and replacement of damaged parts only in an emergency situation to avoid a tow bill, until a permanent repair is made by the Bus Service contracted vendor. Assist with snow removal functions as related to Bus Service operations. Perform shop clean up, as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned related to all transportation and parking operations.
