The Department of Theatre at the University of Minnesota Duluth seeks to hire an Instructor of Theatre in Costume Technology; 9-month, 50% appointment. Responsibilities include supervising the hands-on practicum component of a 5-credit entry level Costume Construction course team-taught with a Theatre faculty member. Appointment begins August 19, 2019 and ends May 11, 2020.
Essential Qualifications: BA or BFA in Theatre. Demonstrated experience and skills in patterning techniques and advanced sewing techniques. Experience with supervision of crews and ability to lead/teach students with a variety of skill levels and abilities. Ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and student designers.
Preferred Qualifications: MA in Theatre or MFA in Costume Design and/or Costume Production with one year of experience teaching costume design and/or technology on the collegiate level. Graduate level teaching is acceptable. Demonstrated supervisory, leadership, communication, scheduling and time management skills. Demonstrated experience in flat patterning and draping techniques, costume crafting, and advanced level of sewing techniques.
