The Coding Manager is responsible for managing the overall operations, functions, workflow, services, staff and expenses related to coding and/or Clinical Documentation Improvement (CDI) in one or more facilities across the Division. The Coding Manager works in conjunction with the HIM Director in the development of and responsibility for overall departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures, projects and annual budget. Responsibilities are carried out in conjunction with organizational philosophy, strategic goals and directions.
The Coding Manager plans, organizes, develops, staffs and manages coding and/CDI for Health Information Management; interviews, makes employment decisions, evaluates and facilitates the development of new employees; assists in the monitoring of and operating budgets for areas of responsibility and establishes goals and objectives for area of responsibility.
Assists in the development, interpretation and evaluation of policies and procedures; promotes effective departmental communication and participates in Hospital, Clinics, and Medical Staff Committee Meetings for areas of responsibility. The Coding Manager manages quality assessment and improvement services; participates and acts as a liaison within the facility and with other BSWH facilities; and ensures areas of responsibility are in compliance with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Medical Staff Rules and Regulations and Bylaws, and other regulatory agencies.
Maintains and protects confidentiality of patient information; may assume responsibility for the department in absence of the Director of HIM; and educates physicians, clinicians and other areas on coding, coding guidelines, and documentation improvement.
The ideal Coding Manager candidate will have five years of experience in coding; model company values, use power, authority and/or influence constructively; optimize clinical outcomes; and create and support new ideas and opportunities aligned with strategic priorities. The ideal candidate will use resources responsibly; communicate openly and timely; deals effectively with change and uncertainty; and works together to achieve successful outcomes.
