Area Operations Manager

Job Knowledge, Training and Experience: Fifteen (15) years of responsible experience in distribution and transmission facilities and journeymen linemen certification preferred. Experience should include all phases of construction, maintenance and system operation. Two-year management/supervisory experience desirable. Must possess knowledge of RUS Materials Specifications Construction, National Electrical Safety Code® and OSHA Regulations. Completion of all required courses to receive NRECA Supervisory Certificate and/or successful completion of the NRECA Operations Internship and/or ten years on-the-job training as Area Supervisor or equally responsible position in the electric industry. Must be or become certified in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Abilities and Skills: Ability to possess an understanding of Rio Grande Electric Cooperative’s policies, procedures, terms and conditions of service, rate and other rules, regulations and approved practices within a reasonable timeframe. Must possess oral and written communication skills in the English language. Must be skilled in motivating, training and evaluating subordinates in order to obtain the highest degree of productivity, and the development of individual capabilities. Responsible for maintaining accurate warehouse inventory. A valid Texas Driver’s License is required and must be insurable with the Cooperative’s insurance carrier. A Class “A” Interstate CDL is preferred and should be maintained although it is not required. Must possess good interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain a harmonious relationship with all Cooperative personnel and the members. Must be able to organize work to meet deadlines. Working Conditions: Irregular hours which may include nights, holidays and weekends. Exempt position. Must be able to work under adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat or cold, high winds or stormy conditions. To ensure all employees are drug and alcohol free, pre-employment, post accident, reasonable cause and random drug and alcohol tests are conducted in compliance with Department of Transportation regulations.
