The Business Analyst role is to apply commercial and technical skills and knowledge to the projects, programmes and business operations to which the individual has been assigned. Prime responsibility is to ensure the requirements of the business are identified, documented, analysed and progressed within a structured and programme environment, as well as to effectively support the successful implementation of the changes required by the business. The role holder will have responsibility for identifying and establishing stakeholder relationships to facilitate decisions in the organisation's best interest.
Requirements, Management and Analysis
Facilitates the capture, definition, development and prioritisation of business requirements through discussions, workshops and interviews with internal and external stakeholders
Understands wider customer needs and drivers and quantifies potential business benefits
Able to translate the requirements into system/process/business requirements & ensure compliance
Manages both functional and non-functional requirements which are complete, clear, concise, unambiguous, relevant, testable and traceable from originator to solution
Uses industry standard tools and techniques for modelling and tracking requirements
Problem Solving and Analysis
Identify, investigate and resolve problems through gathering the necessary information, formulating and verifying hypotheses, determining the root cause(s) and recommending corrective action
Conducts Rapid Impact Analysis, technical and business Feasibility Studies, Options Appraisals and Root Cause Analysis in order to solve problems or deliver business opportunities
Understands the necessity of the organisation's project and analysis standards and applies them consistently
The ability to select, adapt and combine tools and techniques for modelling appropriate to the context for any given requirement (e.g. business modelling, financial modelling, system modelling, process modelling, operations modelling, organisation design, feasibility studies)
Ability to propose and support the design and development of solutions
Converts business requirements into test specifications and conditions
Produces and maintains documentation describing tests, user stories, acceptance criteria and critical success factors in preparation for the construction of systems, processes or business change
Supports development of accurate and complete user and business acceptance test plans
Defines, conducts and coordinates User Acceptance Testing (UAT)
Analyses business activities to understand, define and design processes
Map processes and document procedures using industry accredited tools and methodologies
Understand and analyse organisational workflow
Performs data analysis and applies root cause and issues analysis tools and techniques
Ability to establish and operate change management processes for business areas or service systems and applications
Understands expectations that were set with client and recognises when issues / events may effect delivery
Propose changes or actions required to deliver the intended benefits and confirm they support business objectives
Ensures that projects and activities achieve the required benefits from the introduction of new processes, systems, technology or other changes by identifying potential benefits
Establishes benefit measurement criteria as a basis for progress monitoring after implementation of changes to support business case development.

BCS Diploma / ISEB Business Analysis certification
IIBA Business Analysis Body Of Knowledge (BABOK)
