1. Serves as the in-house electrical engineer for all facility and electrical distribution matters, working closely with Physical Plant and Utilities Department personnel. 2. Serves as primary contact for consultants and the local electric distribution company for all technical issues pertaining to the electrical distribution systems. 3. Solves problems in unstructured situations; develops engineering solutions and expedites projects. 4. Directs and manages engineering projects from the design phase through completion of construction. 5. Formulates and recommends new department policies and procedures. 6. Ensures projects are completed in a timely manner within budget and in conformity with codes, rules, regulations and specifications. 7. Reviews drawings and specifications prepared by outside consultants for compliance to NEC, OHSA regulations, maintainability, University design standards, good engineering and trade practice. Performs acceptance inspections. 8. Creates and maintains Master Plan for Electrical Distribution System documenting current and anticipated demand and energy usage in support of expected growth. 9. Originates electrical system expansion and improvement projects in support of building renovations and new construction. 10. Identifies and analyzes electrical distributions system problems. Develops scope of investigations. Writes request for proposal and oversees consultant's activity. 11. Reviews electrical metering data to insure accuracy and reliability of the meters. Executes projects to reduce system losses and consumption campus wide. 12. Creates and maintains University electrical design standards for all construction and renovations projects. 13. Develops and maintains the capital maintenance plan for the campus electrical distribution system. 14. Provides engineering expertise to other University departments including Construction and Renovations, and Occupational Environmental Health and Safety. 15. May perform other duties as assigned.
Preferred Education: Knowledge of power generation systems, particularly gas turbine and diesel engine based systems. Knowledge of protection and control of medium voltage (up to 15 kV) power systems (feeders, transformers and generators) including the ability to troubleshoot protective device trips. Knowledge of local utility (Avangrid/United Illuminating) practices and procedures.
