We are presently seeking an enthusiastic design professional with excellent technical and communication skills, coupled with significant expertise related to building codes, design documentation, detailing, and constructability, to expand our Quality Management group. This person will participate in the review of project design and construction documents with the intent to identify, correct, or otherwise contribute toward delivery of the best possible set of compliant and buildable construction documents.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
This position is responsible for performing and managing quality control and assurance responsibilities on specific projects, to ensure the project documentation is compliant with established codes and standards. This includes review of the documentation and working and collaborating with other in-house personnel (project managers, production staff, etc.) and external consultants to review and provide red-lines for early schematic design through construction documents on a variety of project types.
This position will also serve as a mentor to our staff on best practices in design, detailing, code compliance, and other areas of architectural practice. Key to this role will be identifying recommended and required changes to documents per firm standards and best practices, before deliverables are released to the client.
Perform multi-disciplinary document review to ensure Construction Documents are prepared and coordinated between disciplines to a high level while maintaining relevant consistency between projects.
Assist in the development of details and technical approaches based on industry best-practices as well as internal firm preferences, including constructability and desired aesthetic.
Conduct project team meetings to review findings of document review and discuss potential remedies and improvements, while maintaining consistent internal communications and building positive relationships with team members.
Identify documentation issues between and within design disciplines, create “lessons-learned” from project reviews, and provide information office-wide on how to remedy these issues for current and future projects. Conduct employee training and awareness activities such as issuing regular internal blog posts and creating processes or tools to assist teams in achieving necessary results.
Serve as a key resource to resolve complex design and technical requirements as may be requested by project team members.
Demonstrate expertise and ongoing learning with regard to regulatory changes and industry trends.
Partner with K&A’s leaders in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, and Planning groups to ensure adherence to internal processes and quality standards expectations. Identify areas for improvement in the quality management systems and processes.
Other tasks as assigned by the Director of Operations or the Director of Quality Management.

10+ years of experience in the production and/or quality assurance review of construction documents for multifamily residential and mixed-use building types, with a passion for applying and creating quality procedures to technical work processes and work products.
Proficiency and enthusiasm for interpretation and application of building, accessibility, and other pertinent codes and regulations.
Ability to work cross-functionally with interdisciplinary teams.
Strong organizational, verbal, and written communication skills.
The candidate must be comfortable making decisions and recommendations that are recognized as authoritative, and that have an impact on the firm’s documentation and construction administration activities.
Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or a related field.
