Associate Electrical Safety Consultant I is an advanced working level class in the Electrical Safety series. Incumbents examine, evaluate, and approve electrical installations in residential, commercial and industrial buildings whose plans and specifications require the signature of a professional licensed by the State of California, and provide electrical consulting services to architects, engineers, designers, contractors, and owners.
One vacancy exists in the Real Time Crime Center of the Fresno Police Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of six (6) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

Three (3) years of journey level trade experience as a contractor (with electrical emphasis) or an electrician involved in commercial/industrial construction with thirty (30) semester units of higher education as noted below or one (1) year of experience as an Electrical Safety Consultant II with the City of Fresno or equivalent with thirty (30) semester units of higher education as noted below. Additional experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. Additional education may be substituted for the required journey level experience on a year-for-year basis up to two (2) years.
Educational requirements include accredited college or university course work in one of the following: Construction technology, architectural drafting, industrial technology, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, engineering, engineering technology or closely related field. A copy of degree or college transcripts must be uploaded and included in your on-line application for verification of requirement. Applicants lacking the documentation may be rejected.
Journey-Level experience applies to a person who has completed an apprenticeship program or is an experienced worker, not a trainee, and is fully qualified and able to perform a specific trade without supervision.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License at time of appointment. Candidates considered for hire must provide proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of their driving record.
Eligibles certified for consideration for this position will be required to successfully pass a Department interview and a Department of Justice fingerprint process prior to employment with the City of Fresno.

THE SELECTION PROCESS
Application Review - Applications and supplemental forms submitted will be reviewed and a limited number of the most qualified candidates will be invited to appear before the Oral Examination Board. Selection of the most qualified candidates will be based upon those applications demonstrating the greatest breadth and depth of applicable training, experience, and education. Oral Examination -100%: A panel of subject matter experts will conduct job-related oral exams to evaluate a candidate's knowledge of specifications, codes, ordinances, regulations and practices used in the design and installation of electrical systems in residential, commercial, and industrial occupancies, ability to read and interpret constructions plans and specifications and compare them with work in progress, ability to speak clearly and concisely, make sound decisions and establish and maintain effective working relationships or other topics related to a candidate's training, experience and qualifications for the position of Associate Electrical Safety Consultant I. Candidates must achieve a passing score to qualify for the eligible list.
The oral examination has been tentatively set for the week of May 6, 2019.
VETERAN PREFERENCE REGULATIONS
Candidates applying for veteran's preference are required to submit a copy of their DD214 with their application during the specified filing period. Evidence must be presented to indicate that the candidate was discharged honorably from the military service. Veterans, including City employees, must resubmit proof of honorable service for every examination for which veteran's preference credit is requested. Qualified veterans who pass the examination will have five (5) points added to their final score.
