Works in conjunction with the Associate Dean in the oversight, planning, quality review, support and implementation of the VCU School of Medicine student affairs section at the VCU School of Medicine Inova Campus. The Assistant Dean will have a VCU School of Medicine faculty appointment and comply with VCU faculty policies.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
(Duties reflect 50% of supported time which is funded by Virginia Commonwealth University)
Student Affairs – Assists in design, administration and evaluation of all student affairs activities for the VCU School of Medicine Inova Campus which includes, but is not limited to:
Student health contract oversight, orientation and services provided
Student mental health services oversight, orientation, services provided and contracting.
Inova Campus liaison for financial aid services
Orientation of all learners to the Inova Health System and VCU Inova Campus to include all required HIPAA, OSHA, VCU SOM, and Inova Health System training.
Oversight, orientation, follow up, and continuous assessment of the occupational exposure policies.
A working knowledge of the student university health insurance plan and how it applies to the above areas.
Orientation, contracting, and quality oversight for the chosen student recreational and fitness service providers.
A full understanding of LCME requirements and the active implementation of the standards related to the educational environment, medical student requirements, and facilities related to the student program.
Actively assess facilities, resources, and programs related to student affairs.
Overse3s Inova Campus administration of the graduation questionnaire conducted by AAMC and any other surveys pertaining to the student affairs area.
Develops and oversees student wellness programs.
In conjunction with the Associate Dean, develop and oversee school policies and procedures and acquire the resources necessary for the school to fulfill its mission.
Develops appropriate education and communication vehicles to support the student affairs area.
Student Affairs – Career Counseling Program
Acts as student advisor, mentor, and guide.
Monitors professional requirements for graduates
Promotes an environment conducive to the academic goals and objectives of the school.
Prepares internal resources for students, i.e. student handbook, financial aid package.
Develops and maintains the VCU School of Medicine Inova Campus career advisor roster.
Works in conjunction with the main campus to develop career advisors.
Assigns career advisors to students.
Meets with every VCU School of Medicine Inova Campus student individually to construct a career path plan.
Conducts the 4 th year course selection process in conjunction with the assistant dean for curriculum.
Establishes and communicates the ERAS and NRMP processes for the Match.
Oversees the campus timeline for CVs. personal statements, MSPE completion and validation, interview training, SOAP and match process.
Ensures that all graduation requirements are met.
Coordinates graduation events and regalia process as requested.
Collaborates with Associate Dean for Student Affairs on all related projects.
Monitors the VCU SoM E-Bulletin Board for upcoming events and student opportunities.
Conducts and directs special projects and represents the school of numerous task forces.
Has the mandate to explain university-wide policies to the faculty and to implement those policies once they are in place.
Foster faculty and staff professional growth development in areas beneficial to the medical school mission.
Participates in and encourages physicians to support the medical school by teaching and other endeavors.
Along with associate dean, has systems in place to monitor learning environment as well as develp and conduct appropriate strategies to enhance positive and mitigate negative influences.
Chair the Committee on Learning Environment
Participates in the School of Medicine Professionalism Committee.
Represents area of responsibility to appropriate community and professional organizations.
Develops strategic plans and mission needs assessment for facilities for the medical school.
Manages and allocates physical plant and equipment assigned to the school as related to the student affairs area (call rooms, lounges, SoM common areas).
Assists Associate Dean with the marketing and promotion of the medical school.
Communicates issues and recommendations to Associate Dean.
Budgets and Resources
In conjunction with the Associate Dean, develop a financial plan and budget for the school consistent with the school's strategic plan.
In conjunction with the Associate Dean, manage the allocation of resources, oversight, and monitoring of financial performance
