Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Technical Supervisor for the Scene Shop at Mason Gross School of the Arts. This position is responsible for the execution of the scenic elements for all Mason Gross School of the Arts productions. The Technical Supervisor works closely and in coordination with the other production departments and ensures that all University safety protocols and procedures are observed.
Among the key duties of this position are the following:
Assists the Director of Production in maintaining a professional artistic and technical level of working in the building the scenic elements of the Mason Gross productions and in the professional attitude surrounding this work, while working with both Professional and Student Designers.
Delivers the scenic elements on time, safely, and within the assigned budget.
Develops cost estimates in consultation with the Director of Production; develops construction drawings and supervises carpentry staff in execution of all scenic elements of the productions.
Optimizes scenic department workflow, ensures material resources are available on a timely basis.
Monitors and maintain MGSA scene shop, warehouse, performance spaces and vehicles.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelors degree in Theater or a related field; or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience that demonstrates knowledge and understanding of technical director in a professional setting.
Also requires a minimum of two years relevant experience in a similar function.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
A high level of computer literacy
Ability to handle multiple responsible and deadlines
Ability to follow university policies and safety procedures
Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and be willing to travel, when necessary, to sites throughout New Jersey for business demands.
Wood and metal shop equipment and power tools; hydraulic lift; Microsoft Office; AutoCAD; Vectorworks
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Able to lift, push, and/or pull heavy objects using appropriate tools.
Comfortable on ladders and at significant heights.
Requires successful completion of Rutgers Defensive Driving Training.
