Hudson County Community College is an award-winning, comprehensive urban college located just across the Hudson River from Manhattan in Jersey City and Union City, NJ. Fully accredited by Middle States Commission on Higher Education, the College offers courses and classes in a wide variety of disciplines to the people and businesses of Hudson County, one of the most historic and ethnically diverse areas of the United States. STEM is a signature program for the College. The STEM division is housed in a new state-of-the-art 70,000 square-foot STEM Building, with floors dedicated to Mathematics; Geology and Environmental Studies; Physics, Engineering and Electrical Engineering; Biology, Microbiology and Histology; and Chemistry. Each of the top five floors house lecture halls, classrooms, science labs, prep rooms, clean rooms, dirty rooms, STEM computer labs and stations, conference rooms, breakout rooms, suites of administrative and faculty offices, and student lounges.
The College is currently searching for a full time College Lecturer in STEM. This is a full time thirty-five (35) hour per week, twelve (12) month confidential, professional educator position. This position is half teaching and half administrative. Under the general supervision of the Associate Dean of Science, Technology. Engineering, and Mathematics Division, the STEM Lecturer is responsible for teaching a maximum of 18 credits per semester of day, evening, and weekend courses, including, but not limited to Math, Engineering, and Physics; developing lab exercises and coordinating lab sections as appropriate; participating in division activities such as curriculum development, academic assessment, and academic advisement; contributing to the College community through committee work or other extracurricular activities.; supporting the administration and logistics of the Construction Management and Advanced Manufacturing program; working with faculty to develop open education resources (OER); and contributing to the College community through committee work or other extracurricular activities.
The successful candidate will demonstrate an understanding of the mission of an urban community college and be able to teach students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds. Candidates must demonstrate knowledge of educational technology, outcomes assessment, and have strong interpersonal and communication skills.
Requirements: A Master's degree in civil or mechanical engineering or a minimum of 10 years as a licensed professional engineer with a B.S. in civil or mechanical engineering. A minimum of one year of teaching experience (preferably at the community college level) is required. Finalists will be required to submit official transcripts and to provide a teaching demonstration. Experience in distance education and proficiency with various computer software programs is preferred.
