Provides props support for the majority of Conservatory mainstage and Zack Box musicals, operas, plays, etc. Manages the Conservatory's props and furniture stock. Constructs limited furniture and large props in consultation with technical direction.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:(list 5-8 essential job functions)
Procures, builds, or otherwise creates props and furniture for Theater and Music Division productions in the BCB and Zack Box Theaters as assigned.
Ensures all rehearsal props are delivered to stage management before the first day of staging rehearsals
Maintains props paperwork in coordination with stage management via Dropbox.
Establishes multiple props meeting with director, stage management, and sometimes designers.
Informs production management of budgetary status prior to spending any funds. Alerts management of any potential overages.
Coordinates any shop time with technical direction staff.
Attends technical and dress rehearsals as required by supervisor.
Sets the work schedule of any additional Production Technicians assigned to their supervision.
MINIMUM JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree required, preferably in theater technology or related. Experience in multi-disciplinary performing arts preferred.
Working knowledge of standard theatrical practices and procedures. General knowledge of theater, musical theater, and opera production needs. Creative skills necessary. Valid driver's license mandatory.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Proficiency in use of hand and power tools, craft work, painting, sewing, upholstery, and any other trades commonly associated with props work. Ability to use computer programs (Microsoft Office and Dropbox) to maintain record keeping and clear communication.
Occasional supervision of Production Technician assistants. Minimal training and supervision of student workers and backstage crew during rehearsal process. Regular supervision of student labor force for maintaining props storage.
