Position Title: Catlin Gabel Middle School Main Stage Technical Director Department: Middle School Reports to: Head of Middle School

POSITION SUMMARY The CG Middle School Main Stage technical director is responsible for collaborating with the Director to produce two full theatrical productions as part of the after-school Middle School Main Stage program. The Technical Director may delegate specific tasks to students volunteers as deemed appropriate. This role will find success in partnering with many community members with the goal of building community through theatrical productions.
Work with and mentor middle school students in production and performance roles.
Attend all rehearsals and performances.
Design and construct production sets, production lights, props and production sound.
Assist with costume design and production.
Organize any necessary work parties with families and students for set building and costume making.
Organize and train a tech crew for productions.
Organize set strike.
Rehearse scenes with actors.
Deal proactively with any issues that may arise.
Coordinate and collaborate with Catlin Gabel School’s Director of Technical Theatre regarding technical and space needs.
Complete required H.R. trainings each year (CPR, first aid, mandatory reporting)
This is a stipend position with varying seasonal and weekly required hours.
Auditions: September 4th and 5th, 3:30 – 5:00
Rehearsals: September 9th through October 24th. Rehearsals are generally scheduled weekdays between 3:30 – 5:30 (3:30 – 6:00 during Tech week).
Auditions: December 11th and 12th 3:30 - 5:00
Rehearsals: December 18th, January 6th - January 31st. Rehearsals are generally scheduled weekdays between 3:30-5:30 (3:30 – 6:00 during Tech week).
Performances: February 1st (evening performance) and February 2nd (Matinee and evening performances)
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Must be at least 18 years of age.
BA or BS from an accredited college or university (with credit hours in education, child development or psychology) is desirable but not required.
Catlin Gabel School is a coeducational, independent day school located on 54 acres in the West Hills neighborhood of Portland, Oregon formed in 1957 by the merger of the Catlin Hillside School, which had been founded as Miss Catlin’s School in 1911, and the Gabel Country Day School, whose roots extend to 1859 with the founding of The Portland Academy.
